Non Scale Victories

Recommended Posts

A couple of vacation-related ones:

* when buying hiking clothes, everything was a medium or a large. I could measure myself with a tape and order online and things actually fit - I was able to decide which fit me BEST, but they all fit and they even coordinate.

* for 16 days of travel and two extremely different purposes (visiting old friends and hiking) I was able to pack in one medium roller bag. Some of this is being able to mix and match clothes more, but I swear some is just smaller clothes.

* when I landed, I was not tired. I’d traveled for over 24 hours, walked 5 miles through airports, slept 6 hours on a plane, then walked another mile or two at my destination. Not only did I not need a catch-up nap, but I was able to be really active all the way to local bedtime.

* one of the features of this city is neighborhoods built on steep hills, with the shortest route between these enormous flights of steep steps and 45-degree paths. When I used to live here it took weeks to get to a level of fitness to tackle them regularly, and I’d usually end up a red sweaty mess. Now I just get as winded as everyone else, but at the top of the steps bounced right back and was no worse for wear.

* my friends haven’t seen me in a decade and more than one of them has burst out in delighted laughter when they realize it’s me and give me a huge hug, then accuse me of aging backwards. It’s really nice.

Yeah, this is the best.

Also, being able to stay up drinking all night like I was a 20-year-old.

The most important victory of all. I had my 2 month follow up today and finally, after 10 years my cholesterol levels were all normal, not high!! If I had kept going the way I was I would probably end up diabetic. It feels amazing to get a clean bill of health

I commute to work on the New York City subway and it used to be the worst part of my day. I’d always be hoping that I could find a seat that I could squeeze into without pissing off the people next to me. Now I see seats that I think I can get into and when I’m in them I find that I have room to spare. Even having to stand is not a big deal anymore when my knees and feet aren’t aching.

And libbyleeb, what an outstanding NSV for you! See, it really does work for us, in a way plain diets never would!

I’ve always seen those girls who can sit cross legged (Indian style I guess) in their office chairs and I was always too big for that. This week I can officially sit like that in my chair like that and not be uncomfortable. A weird NSV but it makes me happy 😃

The last time i saw my surgeon i walked right by him in the hall on the way to the room and when he came in he sat down and turned his monitor around with my file pic on it and said he didn't even recognize my when i passed him. it was a nice feeling but that photo from my first visit will haunt me for the rest of my life.

I have so many non-scale victories--which is fortunate since I only lost 3.5 pounds in the past month. I am, however, only 17 pounds from my goal weight (maybe I should just change my goal??). ;-) So, my non scale victories are as follows:

1. I went from wearing size 44 pants on December 1 to now wearing 32 pants!

2. One of the other kid's mom at my daughter's nursery that I used to talk to all the time saw me this past weekend and introduced herself as if she had never talked to me before. She didn't recognize me!!

4. I had to buy slim fit shirts and suits because standard fit is too loose around my waist.

5. My wife says I am not snoring anymore!!

6. I am no longer taking medication for T2DM, high blood pressure or high triglycerides,

7. My surgeon asked me if I would be willing to be in advertisement where I show my before and after and talk about how bariatric surgery changed my life (haven't decided if I want to do that though).

8. Most importantly, I feel great. I have loads of energy and I am not embarrassed of my appearance or being the fat guy in the room. I am actually looking forward to wearing a bathing suit this summer!! I feel like i didn't just lose weight, but like I turned the clock back 15 years.

Even if I don't lose another pound, I am thrilled with the results. My only regret is not having had the surgery sooner.

My kiddos call it criss cross applesauce! Yesterday a woman asked me if I was pregnant because I was struggling to cross my legs at a restaurant under the table. It had nothing to do with my weight; the table was in my way. Funny that I’ve lost weight and now people are asking me if I’m pregnant. Haha! You know what? I am almost ready for “the change” so I will take that as a complement. I still look young enough to have a baby I guess!

Ok, this is an odd one, but I'll take it: Since losing the weight, I find (and so does Mr., as I needed a second opinion, lol) that I am no longer in need for deodorant. I'm not sure if it's because my diet is different, or because I am always cold and no longer as hot as I used to be, but it is what it is. Though even after working out, and getting all sweaty, upon close inspection, I still manage to avoid smelling "ripened". Go figure.

Again, I'll take it. :)

Oh you are lucky lucky lucky. My pits are horrid, a combine of rotting garlic, onion and je ne sais quoi, it drives me bonkers, Arm and Hammer tames it for 6-7 hours and then it returns. Odd thing is Tomkitten swears he smells nothing, just like Sgt Schultz on Hogans Heroes," I see nothing- I smell nothing" Honest I am not delusional YET!

I actually prefer to walk places these days, rather than driving. Pick up my dry cleaning ... walk, get my hair done .... walk. I haven't talked myself into walking to grocery shop yet. I'll need to buy one of those little old lady push carts! 🤣

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
