Question For Those Who Are Pre-Surgery

Recommended Posts

One of the things my surgeon asked me during our first consultation is "What do you most look forward to when you've lost the weight?
My list is so long, but here are just a few:
  • No need for meds for high blood pressure (I currently take TWO)
  • Being able to wear ALL the clothes I own (I currently have a FULL-WARDROBE in at least 4 different sizes, much of it brand-new)
  • Not being embarrassed to have a picture taken of myself - being in the picture instead of behind the camera
  • I'll be able to wear that little black dress that has been in my closet for years - tags still on it!
  • I'll be able to cross my legs
  • I won't always be the biggest person in the room
  • I'll fit comfortably and confidently in any chair or seat
  • I'll be able to wrap a standard bath towel around my body
  • I won’t have to shop at plus size stores
  • I'll be able to easily sit in booths at restaurants
  • My joints won’t hurt at the end (or beginning!) of the day
  • I won't be the only obese one in my group of friends
  • Career opportunities may open up

I'm curious to see what's on other people's list.

Not having a second heart attack!

Hoping sleep apnea goes away so I can actually feel rested after a night of sleep.

Getting off blood pressure and cholesterol meds.

More energy.

My daughter's a biologist. I know if she has kids her vacations are going to be adventure vacations....camping, canoeing, hiking in mountains, etc. I want to be able to keep up and participate. I want to do waterslides and trampoline parks with my (hopefully) grandkids some day. I want to be able to wear a swimsuit all day on the river and not feel exposed and huge. I want to jump horses again, and dogsled again, and work dogs with a kick bike in the woods. I want to go sledding and Water skiing again. I want to go see South American Mayan ruins and be able to hike to the tops of temples. I want to go rafting in the grand canyon. I told my doctor all of this....and he just shook his head and grinned....said he was thinking of all my upcoming broken bones. LOL I want to be able to wear a standard wetsuit size and learn to SCUBA dive. I want to live! Very tired of sitting on the sidelines:)

Paddleboarding! I want to paddleboard SO BAD!

And kayaking...I did kayaking about 50 lbs ago...it was SO.MUCH.FUN.

But I want to do it when I don't have to worry about fitting in the damn thing, and if I flip it in deep Water, I want to be able to get back in it without looking (and sounding) like a freaking sea lion. Yeah, I did that.

I have a list in my phone of all the things I want to do and I’ve been adding to it over the last month. It ranges from simple things like wearing high heels comfortably again (or as comfortably as heels can be) to section hiking the Appalachian Trail.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
