Hi everyone! I had my vsg surgery on 12/18/17. I’m at home recovering. I had my pcp follow up today and it went well. I’m down 6 lbs since my surgery. The only issue I’m having is sleeping. I had my husband go out and buy a recliner for me to be able to sleep at night bc my bed and my couch were horrible! Plus I usually asleep on my stomach.

Tiffany

Congrats! Glad your doing well. You just made my decision up .. getting Husband to take the recliner out of storage and set it up. Continued wishes for speedy recovery.. keep posting your progress ;)

Sleeping is so much better. Plus the recliner has a built in massager which I absolutely love! Trust me you’ll love it!

Hello all I had the surgery December 5th I went in at 243 now I'm at 221 but just really quick the liquid diet before hand went really well I had 5 ready shakes from GNC a day and it became such a habit and I got really full from it all it has been more of a challenge after surgery than before after surgery the liquid diet because of my taste buds or a bit more challenging 2 intake they want me to have at least 500 calories a day and I'm finding that to be really hard cuz I get full really fast I belch quite a bit now someone who asked a question about poop well that was a problem when I was in the hospital they had gave me all types of gas wax and you no different than things for gas and then I did have a relief release however that's just not something that I do all the time but after awhile you know a few days then how have a release so it'll get better just with movement you it will get better I just want to share that and look forward to sharing on this site with my buddies

I'm scheduled for December 19th! I can't believe it's almost here. I have pre surgery and pre op this week where they'll share foods, Proteins etc info that I'll need. I'll be on the 2 week liquid diet.
I've taken tueaday-friday off from work. Monday is Christmas so I'll return on Tuesday. God willing with no complications. I'm wishing everyone a successful month and saying a prayer for your doctor's steady skilled hands and a speedy recovery.
I bought a size 10 skirt just to hang in the closet LOL.
I've had some people tell me if you get through day 3 of liquid diet, then you're good. Thoughts??

Can you take more time from work? My sister had surgery last year and took a month and has lost 125 pounds. The first month is key as you need to walk every hour. I am off until January 17th and I can say I am definitely not ready to go back. I am sore and get tired easily. Good luck

Hi, I had my surgery on the 5th, and returned to work on the 11th. It wasnt bad at all. Yes, I was a little tired but I was sleeping much better by then. To me, that was the deciding factor, the first few days, there was NO way I couldve gone back to work because I got very little sleep. But once the gas pains subsided, i was much much better.

I had my sleeve surgery on the 19th. I'm feeling pretty good overall. I'm struggling to get my fluids in. I have had diarrhea since surgery. It makes me feel like something is wrong because I see everyone saying they had Constipation.

I had my sleeve on the 19th. I’ve been drinking Premier Protein and Water and protien2 infused water. Any other ideas?

I believe the Protein is what causes the constipation so maybe concentrate more on protein for a day.

What do people do with PB2? Is it something you mix with a Protein Shake?

What is everyone doing for incision care? Bandaids or open to air? What are you cleaning with? If open to air, on what post-op day?

I was told to get them super soapy in every shower and pat them dry. Other than that just keep them dry. I have that glue over top, no bandages or tape on mine. The glues starting to peel off and they incisions look great. I'm post op day 12.

I wash with Soap and Water and not covered. I’m 5 days post op and they are doing really well. I haven’t put a bra on yet cuz of the location of one of the incisions! I’ve been a tank top kinda gal. Yikes!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
