If I'm going to track various body measurements, are there certain ones that I should do?

I'm guessing neck, upper arm, thigh, hips, waist. Am I missing something?

I usually do largest part of the arm, under breast, natural waist, 1cm above belly button (usually what they use for the waist to hip ratio), hips, largest part of the thigh, just above the knee and calf.

I was making myself cra cra (short trip) with the measuring. So now I only do 2: waist and hip measurements. That way, I can easily get a waist/hip ratio if need be. I don't track boobs (chest), cuz of the double mast and implants. They lipo'd the hell out of my back and side boobs, so I'm basically Skeletor up top + the foobs, a fairly static measurement, but that might be a great area to track for most people.

I measure my boobs and under boobs for accurate bra shopping.

My natural waist measurement helps me shop for trousers and also, when compared to height, tells me when I'm no longer in a risky category for weight. (Waist should be less than 1/2 height).

My hip measurement helps me shop for trousers, and was the one measurement I took preop (and remember). It was 59 inches, now it is 43 inches! Goal is 39-40 inches. The hip is the most accurate for me since there is no "sucking in".

I also measured my calves preop for fitting compression stockings. Have lost 3-4 inches off my calves (this is actually a ton).

I did not know that about the height/weight ratio. Good to know.

And wow on the calves! I'd love to be able to wear tall boots without endlessly searching for the extended calves.

I appreciate your answers. I read the other day where someone said that they lost "x" amount of inches and I thought, "
"Are there standard places to measure? Because that number will fluctuate from person to person depending on the number places that they decide to measure."

I have a funny story (well, funny NOW) about boots. In 2007, I went to Italy. This was way before surgery and weight loss. And what did I want? A pair of hot Italian boots, of course! We were in Rome and I drug my poor friends all over Rome in search of a pair of boots that would actually go over my calves. By the 10th store, seemingly miles of wandering, and many eye rolls from store sales people, I finally found ONE damn pair of boots which were really cute and had a bit of stretch quality to them. They were still snug on me but I was determined! I wore them throughout Italy despite that fact I was getting blisters and sore from the snug fit!

I had to write that to give you a glimpse into the future. I can now wear any style of boots and the calves are either perfect or too big! I even wear boots with heels!

Edited to add: I still have my Rome boots. They were made remarkably well so I cant part with them!

I was looking for standards for guys, and it's not as cut and dried. I recommend dudes measure at the top of their hip bones, but it doesn't appear to be standard.

As long as we measure in the same place each time, that's the main thing.

I do my calves as well.

At the gym they measure my shoulder width. That's actually gone down an inch. It would be hard to measure that by yourself though.

There is a difference between your natural waist and what they use for the hip to waist ratio though. For that, it's 1cm above your naval.

Great story! I'm so glad that you still have the boots. So many thing to look forward to.

The neck is an interesting indicator.

Also watching my best friend (sleeved 24 days before me) as his double chin and jowls shrink.

Lots of NSVs to savour!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
