Skin ... what to do

Recommended Posts

So I have my surgery on 11/14. And I was just curious for those that are in postop and that I’ve lost weight, what are you doing it regards to the loose skin?

Loose skin is a matter of age, genetics, how long you have been obese, how much you have to lose, and where you carry your weight. That's it. No lotions, creams, massage, exercise (it's not a muscle), or binding is going to make the damage go away.

I️ am 1 month post and as soon as my incisions healed which was about a week post op I️ began using Jergens Firming lotion all over my body. I️ also do a salt scrub on my tummy and thighs once a week. And I️ plan on going to the spa and getting a massage & sea weed wrap every 3 months. All of these things help with circulation, skin elasticity, and firming. Granted there is no cure all. And it largely depends on genetics, age, and how much weight you have to loose. Also it’s been proven melanin in your skin aids in elasticity as well, so if you are darker skinned you have that on your side as well :-)

And depending on those genes, some people have skin that bounces back, and waiting 1-2 years after maintaining to see where things settle before doing plastics makes a difference in that outcome. Everyone looks better with some muscle building, while exercise won't make the skin firm, muscles fill it out some.

The fear of the unknown outcome Loose skin is a normal topic in here.

Pre op I googled what weight loss loose skin looked like. I looked at best case and worst case scenarios to prepare myself of what my results might be.

The only thing that will remove loose skin is plastics. If you have documented rashes, infections or mobility issues some insurance companies will help pay for plastics. Self pay is expensive. Research your options.

Lotions are the same as all the weight loss pills promised quick weight loss...Lotions my soften but if the damage is done they will not make your skin snap back or prevent loose skin.

I never thought I'd be a bikini model after surgery. Lost over 100 pounds. I have lose skin. Honestly it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

For me, Shapewear helps hide the skin and makes clothing fit better.

It depends on many factors, as mentioned above, as well as how quickly you lose weight. I've lost right around 115 pounds and thankfully my skin is not awful. I have loose skin in the expected areas (arms, stomach and thighs) but I've noticed that in the 6 weeks I've been stalled my skin has bounced back some so I know something is happening. Shockingly my legs bounced back great but my arms are a hot mess, so you just never know.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
