Tired of the stall

Recommended Posts

Three and a half months out now, just having my first stall. I lost weight (only a couple ounces sometimes) basically every day til 2 weeks ago. Very very slow weight loss, only 22 lbs lost since the day of surgery. But steady.

then I had a procedure unrelated to this and wasn’t allowed to exercise for a week. I think that was part of the stall. I even gained a Lb that week. This last week I have lost back down to almost less than the stall so I hope it’s ending. I was 169-170 all week and now exactly 169.0 this morning. And back to exercise, and really focused on getting my Protein.

i was lucky to not stall til now tho.

I'm a slow loser and in the midst of a long ass stall, have been bouncing 2 pounds up and down since 10/2/17. Stalls happen and they suck but stay the course and stay focused. I have found that early on I just stuck with it and those stalls would break. Once I hit 6 months I realized if I had a long stall I had to switch things up. Change calorie and carb intake and exercise regimen. Just stay strong. I've heard of people who stalled for months and then one day they started losing again.

I'm a little stressed out because my doctor says I need to loose 20 lbs by 12/7. I was sleeved 10/8. Smh. Stupid PCOS is messing me up. I've been at 209 for 3 weeks. Smh,

Just blowing off steam.

I have PCOS as well. I was told to stop the Metformin and Spironolactone after surgery but I started them again this morning. I have been at a stall for the last 10 days. And to top it off gained 3 lbs. UGH

I'm with you. Currently in a stall as well, known as the dreaded "3rd week stall." I was sleeved 10/16. Things are still changing as clothes are fitting differently. I'm sticking to the plan and know that one day (hopefully very soon), the stall will break and the scale will move in the direction we all expect it to. Stay the course and believe.

Yes, you are so right. The stall is broken. [emoji16]

It’s good to be slow loser because you can keep the weight off longer. Slow and steady is best. But, Wow! Months of stalls would make me nuts. I’m glad I’m finally losing again. I seemed to think I would be the exception if the stall continues long time. Wondering how I will do in 3 more months. That’s when my 6 months will be.

Increase Water and Protein and exercise. It will help break stall.
Whenever I did this I notice it broke stall.
I am 8 months post op and at my goal or really below my goal weight.
I have lost 97 lbs.

That’s great! It’s funny how some people don’t have a stall at all and some have a few stalls and others have a stall every other month. But, you’re weight loss progress is great.[emoji3]

Yeah, stalls suck. Don't worry about it though. If you are sticking to your plan, you will break it pretty soon. Normally, I have accelerated weight loss for a least a week afterward. I lost nothing on week three, then five or six pounds on week four. Same thing happened at week seven after a stall at week six, and is happening this week after a stall on week eleven.
I haven't stalled for more than a week so far. At the end of a stall week, I try to increase my Protein and calories a bit. I still exercise, but take it down a notch. I think that this combination helps me to break them. I will tell you what a bodybuilder that i know told me not too long ago. If you want to lean up and keep your metabolism revved up, you must consume more calories one day per week if you are restricting your calories. He thinks that this keeps your body from going into starvation mode. I agree, although more calories for me might be only 1-200 more calories. At around 1,000 calories, it is hard to think that you are breaking out of that. It seems to work though.
As a side note, it also sucks to have your doctor placing a weight loss goal on you like that. It seems that he/she might be setting you up to fail. I had surgery in Mexico, and never had to worry about someone telling me how much I should have lost at any period of time. I guess that is how it might be done here in the states though. I say this, because I read every day how people here feel as though they aren't losing fast enough. They are discouraged. I tell them that everyone is different, and they will lose at their own pace. Everyone tells them that. Now, I see why people might worry.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully, you will be on the other side of this stall really soon.

You are absolutely right with your comment. I increased my calorie intake one day and did a jumping jack routine. Also, it was discouraging because All I kept thinking about is the low calories and not losing, and stressing out. Then I said to myself I need to get my mind off of this.

So, as time went on, by the end of week 9, I lost 1 pound. Then the 10th week, I lost 5 lbs, and another 5 lbs, in week 11. I’m just starting my 12th week today and will increase HIIT one day a week.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
