To weigh or not to weigh? That is the ??

I was operated on on Tuesday of this week and I finally go home tomorrow. My question is should I weigh myself or wait u til my first post-op dr appt? I see some people who have had amazing results and others who have gained. I know this is a time of healing and everyone’s body is different but I must admit I’m curious to say the least? Suggestions are most welcomed.

You know they say it’s best not to weigh often. But I’m like you, I’m curious so I’d probably weigh. If you decide to and see a number that you don’t like don’t let it be a deterrent in your journey. Best luck post op and long term!

I weigh once a week. My Dr. told me I'd go nuts if I weighed myself every day.

I think it all depends on your tolerance level and accepting logical results. I am not going to weigh until the morning of my 1st follow up. After 3 weeks I will likely weigh myself more often. Typically I am a daily weigh-er, but I can't expect much excitement on losses until I am more healed. I don't feel anxious or like it's a race.

I agree with most, I weighed myself very frequently and still do! I am a little over two months out from surgery and weigh almost every day. I know it may sound crazy but it helps keep me in line. It is not hurting anything whatsoever and actually makes my day when I see the scale go down a little. :)

I wish I didn't have the need to weigh myself all the time so I picked one scale which is a big digital scale at my job and I weigh when I get to work, every time I've lost weight I take a picture on my phone , guess u know I've got lots of weights on my phone but I was also able to track my progress. It's working for me and I've been doing it for over 9 months since before surgery.

Officially, the program I am working with recommends not weighing in so frequently.

I weigh myself daily.

At times, this has been frustrating. However, at this point (11 weeks out) it has helped me understand my body and my weight loss patterns. I know that I will go down to a new low, then over the next several days I may bounce around (up to 2.5 lbs) above that low before hitting the next low. As I said, early on this was frustrating, now I understand that it will happen and it does not stress me out (as much).

I am currently using Fitness Pal to track my weight . I only enter new lows, and I don't record the little jumps back up between lows. Having that to examine the weight loss over time is very helpful. After the initial drops my weight-loss has felt so slow, but looking at it over weeks is helpful.

I have a hard time "seeing" my weight-loss. The other things that has been helpful is recognizing the NSV. I had to buy all new pants. Also, I am almost done shopping in my closest. Those things can offer a boost when the scale is not moving as quickly as we would like it to.

12 days post op and have weighed everyday. The scale has not moved not one pound. It has done a number on my emotions and I wish I hadn't. Reading lot of post help me realize, it happen to many. But weighing daily plays mind games with you forsure. I actually took measurements before surgery and again yesterday, and I have lost several inches. Which is a good thing. Initially I would wait two weeks.

I weigh myself daily, first thing in the morning. Weighing myself is one of the first things I used to stop doing, when I started gaining. I want this time to be different.

hahaha! I'm a daily weigher. Sometimes morning and night so I can predict what my morning weight will be. :D Yep, I'm crazy for the scale!

12 days post op and have weighed everyday. The scale has not moved not one pound. It has done a number on my emotions and I wish I hadn't. Reading lot of post help me realize, it happen to many. But weighing daily plays mind games with you forsure. I actually took measurements before surgery and again yesterday, and I have lost several inches. Which is a good thing. Thanks for all your responses. I decided to weigh myself when I got home and I’m down 4lbs in 3?days. I guess that’s not all that bad.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
