Do you find it hard?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm getting sleeved at the end of the month and just wanted to hear from a few of you that have been sleeved already.

My diet is awful. It's incredibly carb heavy! I know that I will be changing my diet forever now to Keto style.

Did any of you find this really hard? I'm worried I don't have enough will power. Anytime I have tried keto before I have never been able to stick to it. I'm worried that I'm gonna lose the weight and put it straight back on again as I always have

I’m getting sleeved November 7th. I’ve been low carb/ Keto for 10 weeks now. I’m lost 25 pounds. I didn’t realize how carb heavy my meals were till I started keto. I didn’t find it hard to change the foods. I’ve had a harder time giving up my pop.

I had and still have all those same fears. Its scary thinking your life will change just from the way you have to eat. But you learn so much about yourself, your body, and the changes you need to make to get the results you want. You may need to stick to a Keto style diet until you hit goal, you might not. You won't know those things until your eating regular food and are able to test better how your body tolerates it. All i can say is TAKE. YOUR. TIME. With EVERYTHING. Especially introducing new food, also eating takes time. I'm a year out and it still takes me almost an hour to eat 3oz of food. But if i don't take that time and am rushing it i WILL make myself sick. Its not worth it. Weigh your food. It sounds obsessive but its the single best way to track your intake. I slacked early on but its really helpful with tracking macros. Understand that the weight comes off very differently for everyone. Everyone will have stalls, it just comes with the journey. Embrace the stall and look for other measures of loss. I know this is a lot and its barely the tip of the iceberg. We're all so different and every surgeon and nutritionist has a different plan. Follow what plan they have for you and keep a close relationship with them. I wish you well on your journey. Hope i offered a little insight. [emoji4]

Don't feel bad monkeyol....My diet has been carb heavy for some time...It still is to some extent. I've done the low carb thing several times before, and can't be successful long term eating that way. I prefer a vegetarian-ish diet if you will. I only eat enough meat to get my Protein in, focusing mostly on fish. I still eat veggies, ancient grains and fruit.

Carbs aren't bad for you.....Bad carbs are bad for you, just as bad fats are bad for you. Most of the world lives almost exclusively on carbs for nutrition, and are not fat. They don't eat Frosted Flakes, potato chips, Pasta, french fries, candy and other sugars though, Their food supply is minimally processed.

If you would like to incorporate carbs into your diet, then opt for healthier, minimally processed carbs, and add them back slowly so that you can see how your body reacts to them.

Don't feel that you have to eat that way forever, though. You definitely have choices, and must find which way works best for you for in long term.

Good luck.

Hello, first of all congratulations on your decision. I recently had my surgery Sept 15. It is a challenge but your body won’t let you eat as much, support is key, well at least for me, hang out with positive people, everything you eat after surgery will be a hit or miss, you will figure out what your body will tolerate. However remember that just Bc you tried something and it didn’t settle, it might be too soon so it’s ok to try it later on. Good luck [emoji4]

my pre-op diet was pretty much simple, but yet efficient. Can't say it wasn't hard, but I managed my hunger.

My only food for 2 weeks was a full Protein Shake every 3 hours (got an alarm reminder on my phone) - at 9am, 12pm, 3pm and 6pm. Plus lots of Water in between. With Premier Protein (30mg) it was nearly 260% of daily Protein value, about 20% of daily fat and less than 10% of carbs.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
