I am approaching my 4 weeks post op...I am down 51# slowly but surely. My problem I'm having is my blood pressure and my sugars are starting to creep up...I talked to my pcp about it and he want me back on the meds..I've been taking low doses of insulin and the bp meds but the bp meds make me super dizzy...I cut it in half and still dizzy...I'm barely eating so I don't understand why my sugars would be creeping up...anyone able to shed some light?

How long were you on insulin before having your surgery? I have read research that says the length of time you were diabetic and on insulin has a big effect on whether or not you are able to stop your medication completely. Less than 5 years seems to be the cut off point.

Our livers store glycogen which will be released when our blood sugar goes down. Maybe you have not gone through all that your liver has stored yet. I was able to get off my diabetes meds right away, but maybe you just need some more time.

I don't have any advice on the BP meds as I have never had high BP. Good luck and I hope you are able to get off the meds eventually.

I've been on them a very long time...I was diagnosed in 2003. Was able to go off for a few years but then had to go back on so lately about 7 years

Oddly, my sugar is always higher when I don't eat. It's much more stable when I eat low carb and consistently.

That is because of your liver dumping sugar. It will dump more sugar then you would have eaten sometimes. So it is better to eat then let it dump.

Maybe you just need more time. Some people still need to take insulin even after surgery.

I am not a doctor though so you should discuss this with him/her.

Maybe that's why Its high I haven't eaten much at all these last 4 days...my stomach has been hurting and I haven't had much of an appetite...when I was on my liquid diet and the first couple weeks after surgery it was pretty normal...but I've been kinda constipated sorta and have had pains in my stomach so I went back to liquids like Water and maybe a Protein shake/water

Eating is very important. I've heard great things about Smooth Moves tea for Constipation, also I've had good results with Benefiber and sugar free Fiber gummies. All bodies are different, sometimes diabetes is completely resolved after surgery, sometimes not, sometimes only after a certain amount of weight has been lost. My friend was insulin dependent for 10 years before surgery and was completely off it and any other meds within 6 months of surgery.

Try to get your walking in, it will help prevent muscle atrophy (you need your muscles to process glucose properly) and help move things along in the downstairs as well.

Have faith, follow the path, and trust that a healthier you is going to be the result. Getting on meds now does not mean you'll be on them forever, and ending up on less meds in a healthier body is not a bad option for a result.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
