August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Recommended Posts

@Cloebird Can you message me that chart please? This app is the most user UNFRIENDLY app I have ever installed. I HATE IT, but love this group. I got tired of scrolling through pages trying to find the chart. Is it me or does this App really suck?

I'm so glad I made this lifestyle change and anyone who struggles with weight loss I definitely tell them to consider this surgery![emoji16][emoji1376]

I don't have the chart...when I'm on my laptop I probably can copy it from this thread though.

No doubt, the BariatricPal app was so poorly designed, it's not even funny. And I'm not just saying this in regards to the fact that BariatricPal won't sync up with Apple Health so that if we have a smart scale (like I do) or an Apple Watch (I'm picking up a new one today), we can sync our activity and weight data automatically. I'm saying that the BASICS that should work, like user authentication, don't actually work.

So, as for what I'm up to, I am picking up my Apple Watch because I want to get a more accurate tracking of my step count (as I don't carry my phone with me all the time at work). I'm also picking up a kit of derby gear in about an hour so I can start with phase 1 training with Boulder County Bombers tomorrow. I've already paid my dues and WFTDA insurance online, so all I need to do is get my gear and hit practice tomorrow!

So, after today's series of errands, my step count is a whopping 13,806 steps according to my phone. I could have got it up to 15,000 if my thighs weren't burning with the fires of a thousand evils, as the walk home from the bus is worth roughly 1,000-1,200 steps. I went up to Loveland to get my derby gear, down to Boulder to pick up my lost wallet (the transit authority found it and, luckily enough, nothing was stolen from it) and my new Apple Watch (so now, I'll be able to pick up the step count when I'm not carrying my phone with me), make a dispute with my bank of a few overdraft fees (I was able to get them all reversed) and try to sort out an issue with T-Mobile.

I'm not starting roller derby tomorrow (due to a change of plans by the trainers, but given the burning in my legs, I'm not going to complain too much). But I am going down to Arvada tomorrow to finalize opening an account at a credit union.

I wanted those who were being discouraged about their weight loss to see what the average person who is following all rules should be losing and have a good idea of what they will lose in the next year. This is absolutely accurate for me, i was 244 and now im 207. So right on target!

Thanks for posting the weight loss table. Interesting to read.

Everyone is having some great results keep up the good work August sleevers!

I'm really proud of us August sleevers. Whether you're meeting the chart or not, I think we're all doing so well. I have literally told three people in my life about my surgery (about half my immediate family) and so this whole process can feel totally lonely so I love seeing how everyone else is doing. It's not a competitive thing - some people are taller, younger, or better at exercise etc than me and doing much better. The point is that we're all doing our best here. It's just nice to know people have the same feelings and obsess over the same things (I want diet coke so badly).

I totally agree, 1 pound a day is completely unrealistic, and really irresponsible of your medical guy to say so. All that's done has set you up to expect that loss, and when you don't achieve it, you feel bad, and feel like you are failing - which you totally aren't. Everyone loses weight at a different speed, so it's not healthy comparing yourself to others. So many things impact it - your age, starting weight, genetics etc, so there is no 'one size suits all'. As long as you are eating mindfully, keeping up your Fluid intake, your Protein intake, and aren't having sugary or low quality junk food, you will lose weight. I'm losing 1kg a week now, 3 months post surgery, and that's good, healthy and sustainable. More importantly, I don't feel like I'm on a 'diet'. I'm just eating (mostly) good, healthy food, and enjoying it.
Please don't compare, or expect to lose a pound a day. You'll only get demoralized, sad and most likely turn to food to comfort yourself.
I'm sending you positive, happy vibes. [emoji173]️

I’m hoping he meant 1 lb a day at first, which is what I lost. It has now slowed to 3-5 lbs a week and occasionally increases as my muscle mass goes up. I’m calling my NUT Monday to make sure I’m still doing things right. I burn between 500-900 calories a day working out so it’s possible I’m not eating enough and my body is holding on to calories and nutrients. Sometimes I do 2 workouts a day. It just feels so bad but so good.

Just waiting for my BMI to get below 30 and my weight below 200. I’m at 203-205 and 32 BMI now. They’re my first two goals.

Thank you! I love this chart because I’m about 15 lbs less than what it says I should have lost. Makes me feel better than what my surgeon said at my 2 week post op.

Non-scale achievements... I was cleaning out my closet this weekend and I threw out/donated about 2/3 of the stuff in it. Even some of the jeans I'd been so proud to be able to wear again after surgery are too big now. I also found a sweatshirt in the closet I didn't remember and tried it on. It fit great, so I went to show it to my wife and she told me it was hers... she'd bought it to stay warm while at her old job a while back. It's an L. (I was a solid 3XL before weight loss.) Most of the stuff I wear is XL now, but being able to wear even one L sized thing feels terrific.

And here is a picture of me wearing the suit that used to fit me this time last year. My kid is wearing it with me this time.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
