I'm pretty embarrassed of myself, I've been home for 6 days since surgery and I'm feeling like I'm getting severally dehydrated, over those 6 days I've drank less than 20 oz a day, yesterday I felt horrible and decided that if I felt the same today I would go to urgent care and get some IV fluids but I felt better today but still no where near 30 oz of Fluid. My urine output is getting less and the last time I checked the color was teetering between dark orange and brown, my skin is dry and I'm weak and get tired and winded easy which is not normal for me, also my mouth is very dry. Do you think if I drank more Water I could get this under control or should I get some IV fluids, school starts next week and I'm afraid that if I go to the doctor and something is seriously wrong they will put me in he hospital and I don't have time or money for it. I feel the reason I'm not drinking enough is out of habit having to constantly sip water plus it's still painful to when it hits my stomach even with tramadol.

Call your surgeon ASAP. Dehydration is very dangerous.

And don't be embarrassed, getting fluids down is so much easier said than done.

Call your surgeon! Your body can shut down. If you don't want to spend more time in a hospital, you may want to go now to get it under control! This sounds so dangerous with dark urine. Id go to hospital not urgent care. If you are that dehydrated, you won't be able to drink yourself hydrated at this point.

Get yourself to the hospital! When I had my lapband I was dehydrated I couldn't swallow Water at all.. please don't let it get that far it's awful! Get yourself some popsicles the sugar free ones, suck on ice chips drink sip on crystal light but get try to get it in or check in to er if you're having pain issues with drinking..don't wait start sipping or chewing ice now

Lapband placed: 8/2011
Lapband removed: 3/2017

I had trouble getting even half the required Water too. After two sips my stomach needed to wait a long time. It just didn't work. Four weeks out, I'm still not getting enough oz of water per set so I count my veg juice and my Protein Drinks - probably cheating. For the first three weeks, I went to a little natural MD and got a Vitamin and mineral infused IV. I always felt much better after it. I'd suggest it and maybe your doc will even prescribe it, though you don't need a prescription if you are cash pay.

You do sound prett dehydrated. You may need an iv for fluids. Don't wait to long. My goal during first days was 60 oz minimum. Fluid before Protein. I literally drank a tablespoon at time of fluid every 15 minutes. Call your doc and get some fluids, you sound to far behind to recoup quickly.

I would switch to something better than Water. Maybe propel or Powerade zero? Try a few different things, but I wouldn't wait too long. If I were you I might try electrolytes, but have a preset "if this happens, I must seek treatment now" point. You need to seriously increase asap and see a difference.

Maybe you could call urgent care and see if they would treat. I like urgent care because here they bill as a pcp, not an ER. We always get excellent care. But by all means, if you need the ER, do what you have to do.

Well I decide to go to urgent care this morning, they ran labs and said they were all normal it I'm kind of surprised about that, but that's good that they were fine. They did give me a bag of IV fluids while there and I feel a lot better.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
