Pre-op Diet

Recommended Posts

OK, so my nutrition class was scrapped. I had assumed I would be on a liquid diet because of the comment the finance lady made, but I guess not. I only have to be on a clear liquid diet for 3 days prior. No red liquids. So...next Monday the 12th, I'll be joining those of you in exercising my will power.

Hi Kelly here,

I'm on day 10 of my Dr's required 2 weeks all liqued pre-op diet... I have been very good about sticking to only what is allowed, except last night I went out to Olive Garden and had a 2 Bowls of Tuscanno Soup. Other then that I have been strict.

Surgery is on Mondaythe 12th, wohoooo

Kelly :-)

My doc just said to eat low carb until surgery. I decided to do liquids during the day and a light dinner at night. I'm hoping that doing liquids now might make it easier after surgery. I also have a handful of nuts as a snack. The scale is going down and I think that is the most important thing at the moment. I haven't given up my Diet Coke and I don't think I will until after surgery. I think I will miss it the most.

Ya' know, Jill, I hear you not wanting to give up your Diet Coke, but you really should try weening yourself off *now*. Otherwise, going cold turkey after surgery is going to be a REALLY bad headache. I had to become a Decaf coffee to NO coffee gal and that was ROUGH! But the headache was manageable because I did it slowly. I really would like to urge you to start the process of getting it out of your system now. Plus, the carbonation is also something you don't want to have coursing through your digestive system right up to surgery day.

I know. You are so right. I will start weening myself off of it. Today I've been much better. I've been drinking a lot more Water. I know I will feel so much better without it. Thanks for the honesty. I really do appreciate it.

My doctor has me on a 7 day liquid pre-op diet. I am drinking the Atkins Advantage Protein drink recommended by him. I get throught the day by drinking lots of Water and he said I could have 2 cups of green veg a day. As of this morning, I have lost 7lbs and still have 4 more days of pre_op. I getting very excited and a little nervous about being banded on 11/14/2007. However, I am ready to do what it takes to make me healthier. Thanks to all my friends here at the support forum, I love reading your stories, suggestions, etc.

Thanks

I was banded on 11/6 but my preop diet was 3 Protein Shakes a day that did not have more than 250 calories and one meal. The meal was 4 oz of lean meat, 1/2 cup starch, 2 cups of vegies, 1/2 of milk and 1 fat and 1 fruit. They gave me a schedule of what to do every hour of the day. I was to drink Protein shakes at 9, 12 and 3 and have liquids throughout. The main meal would be between 5-7. I chose Body Fortress whey Protein and 8 oz. of 1% milk. It wasn't bad because I was really busy during the 2 weeks. There were times that I did not even think about it and would miss the time. I was a little hungry at night but the main meal a day was my saving grace. Oh by the way, the bonus was losing 24lbs prior to surgery that was within the month prior to surgery. I dropped really fast just by sticking to it. The preop diet helps in getting you ready for liquids after surgery. Believe I am looking forward to mushies.

I start my clear liquid diet tonight at midnight (5 more hours to go!). I work 6p-6a and sleep during the day. I'm a little worried tomorrow because I'm driving up to Denver after work (3 hour drive) for my nutrition class and then coming back to work that night. I hope I have enough Clear Liquids to get me through the day tomorrow. :nervous:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
