why did i bother to tell my friends UGH

Recommended Posts

I now tell anyone who asks me what am I doing or how am I doing it. If they don't ask I assume they don't care. For the ones that do ask ... The reactions are mixed but I have now talked to dozens of people who have literally ruled out surgery with no research or education because of the stigma of surgery.

I didn't really care about what people thought about me being fat and I don't really care about what they think of me getting healthy.

I am hoping that my sharing will make a difference and contribute to other people dealing with obesity having the space to educate and chose for themselves.

I told only a few friends and family...and a few more as I am in months 4-5 now and people have noticed the weight loss, but what really scares me is the 52 lbs gone and some people are just looking at me with NO comment? Why are some people like you look great and others act like nothing has transpired...its a HUGE difference but like some people noted they are jealous or they are simply just not in a good place to make a nice motivational comment etc.. Some people don't care i guess, Ive always complimented and motivated others to better health which was my own personal intention to begin with not as much vanity....Lets face it not everyone is going to love your choice but its OUR choice and we made it...Good luck don't let those haters win...embrace your road to successful health choices!

Some people are so self-absorbed hey probably don't notice. Other people, like myself, would never comment on someone's weight ever. I have several friends who are recovering anorexics and my sister was. Even praising comments about weight loss can have negative consequences and I refuse to be part of someone becoming anorexic/bulimic.

This! I really wish I was better at this. I think somebody's weight should not be a subject, but I fall into the norm and always compliment loss, and stay quiet at gain.

My husbands 31 year old son has no idea my husband has had a gastric sleeve 4 years ago, and all my husband has said is I am not eating carbs and changing the way I eat, which is true. 100 lbs gone and his son hasn't a clue. You eat less, the weight loss is slow. My husband doesn't want to discuss his personal business with anyone. It's doable.

I told my mum.

I already knew why I was doing this. I didnt need anyone's opinion. And when you tell people. They assume you want there advice. Good luck. Actions speak louder than words. When people see the weight dropping off and ask. I'll say. But happy I told no one before.

I say the same thing which is" I completely changed my life I eat Proteins and no carbs...!!

But in reality I really did do this...I actively changed my eating habits, I always exercised, worked out...

my blood pressure was just too high so I opted for surgery, it went down to normal levels

a week after surgery and its been healthy ever since!

Some people think surgery is sooooo drastic. But now days they have such awesome technology that I think it would be silly to NOT have it. But sure as s**t as soon as you involve others they suddenly become Dr doggie howser lol. Ignore them and come here. I'm not telling many because I had a failed lap band and I could only imagine what they say about the Sleeve. Bottom line.... You do you girl. We're here for you

I've always been the "big girl" in the group but now that i have told my friends im getting surgery everybody is like oh you don't need it you're not even big.... i hate the fact that people always wanna tell me what i need and don't need. i swear i see myself cutting a lot of people off on my journey

It's difficult decision, I only told 4 people because I hate judgement so to prevent a "falling out" I kept my desicion a secret[emoji41] #NoOnesBusiness! If you allow their opinions to bother you it'll sabatoge your success, so don't allow the negative emotions inside of you or in your space[emoji7]

I am glad I am not the only one who did not mention it to people. I told a few close friends and my immediate family members. They have tried to convince me that I do not need it but I am getting it done. I have some other family members that when I mentioned thinking about having the surgery they were so hurtful and disparaging that I quit talking about it to them. They have no idea in 13 days I am having the procedure

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
