Any regrets or things you wish you would have known beforehand??

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am booked in for revisional surgery from gastric band to MGB in a months time, however I am feeling a tad nervous about life afterwards with it being a more complicated surgery.

Can anyone please tell me how you felt afterwards and if you regret anything??

Thanks in advance guys

Expect the recovery time to be surprisingly long. I was very functional 2 days out of surgery, but it took 3-4 months to really get my strength back. (I had a virgin sleeve, so my recovery right out of surgery was quicker than someone with a revision... so you might not feel quite as "functional" for a week or so).

You'll also be surprised, in a good way, that after the 8 week diet that "full" feels more natural and comfortable than with the band.

I didn't have a revision but I did have the MGB. My recovery took a few weeks to get my energy back. I was walking a couple of hours after surgery. About a couple of weeks after surgery, I didn't have much energy and my nutritionist told me to start with a little of a Protein Shake a few days early. It worked. I got my energy back and haven't had any issues since.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
