Is Dumping Syndrome Common

Recommended Posts

Hello

I had gastric bypass back in December 2015. I have experience dumping syndrome many times when I eat certain things but now I have been eating certain things that would cause dumping but I have not experience it. It depends on what and how much I eat of certain foods and Snacks. Best of luck.

I had RNY in February of this year and have never had dumping. No problem eating pie, Cookies, chips, all that junk! The only thing that has really changed is the quantity I feel I can eat and I feel a little queasy if I eat something really fatty (like a fried thing).

FYI, I don't eat junk food often, but have experimented on special occasions and nothing happened. Your mileage may vary!

I've never experienced dumping since my RNY in October 2016. For the first 7 months I was very careful about what I was eating and hardly ate anything over the 6g of sugar recommended to me by the Nutritionist. Now I have found I can eat a small cookie, chocolate or a bit of cake and not suffer any consequences. I have not eaten a full-size dessert of any type. I have stayed away from most fried foods. I have noticed high fat items can cause me to feel yucky but they don't cause dumping. I recently tried corn on the cob and suffered a week of indigestion so sadly it won't be in my diet from now on.

Wow it sounds like a lot of people don't dump!! That's great! I did probably about 5 times my first year...the worst was from having 2 coolers - just too high in sugar at 11 months...it was painful and running to bathroom. I still will only drink 1 cooler not sure if I would dump but I don't wanna test it!!

I agree it does take awhile to learn what your body can tolerate...Now I sometimes test it (other then coolers) and nothing seems to make me dump.

I will have sweets in moderation. With my lapland which was removed, for the sleeve, I ate EVERYTHING and ANYTHING but I got satisfied sooner and never over-indulged. Regarding dumping. ..I am going to start slow with foods and see my bodies reaction. You have to know yourself. Many people have dumping, and or gain weight back etc; you can overeat the wrong foods and not get healthy. I can already tell this Sleeve is 100% better then that lapland that was choking the life out of me.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
