Need help with liquid ideas!

Recommended Posts

I'm starting my first day of pre-op liquid. I work a pretty high-stress job and I tend to snack lightly through the day and have a big lunch around 2:30pm when I can catch a break. My morning ritual is a few boiled eggs and vanilla Protein Shake mixed with Decaf coffee to tide me over until about 10am - today it's only the Protein shake coffee.

Can you all give me some suggestions on how to have a "filling" meal on the liquid diet? It's barely 8am here and my head hunger is already screaming because I know I won't be able to eat anything solid for a few weeks as my surgery is next Monday, July 17th!

Protein Water is a great idea..I use it when I am driving long distance
Sugar free Jello and popsicles count as fluids... so does broth. My husband made Soup and I had the best broth. Filled me up and the warmth was very satisfying. Premier Protein shakes are still my go to protein...the strawberry and Carmel are the best!! Best of luck!

The first few days stink. There is no other way to describe it. Hang in there, you've got this. By day 3, you'll be in a much better place.

You'll be fine. Keep your perspective, because it's very psychological. I'm in day 11 and counting. Powerade no calorie is working great for me. My wife made homemade beef and chicken broth and I thought I was in heaven lol. Stay hydrated, and you can mix it up with other no cal drinks like certain Vitamin Water flavors. My fun time is eating my calcium chews and gummie Vitamins. I was at the shore with my family at the hotel restaurant and their food looked amazing! I had PowerAde and water and was able to withstand and psychological issues. You'll get stronger each day.

Thank you for the info! I assume 11 days out of surgery - how has the pain been?

I've been very good with pain. I haven't taken any meds since the day after surgery. The 3rd day in the hospital I was fine, and filled the prescription given by my surgeon. It's just sitting in my medicine cabinet.

I was the same... but I never even filled the prescription...might be why I have never been constipated. I did use liquid Tylenol from time to time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
