I feel so moody! What's up ?!!

Hi all. I'm nearly 6 weeks post sleeve. My weight loss is on point, I did have a complication (stricture) and was ballooned a few days ago after not being able to really eat without throwing up.

I just feel like an emotional basket case. My mood is blah & everything sets me off mad.

I have yelled at my poor kids more in the past few weeks than ever in their lives ( 14yr & 12yr olds).

I do not like the person I am right now!!

Is it from not dealing with my emotional relationship with food ?

Lack of carbs ?

Lack of calories ?

Or am I really losing my patience & this is how I will be ?

Anyone who has been through this? Please advise !! I had complications, but go back to work in 1 week, too.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I haven't been there yet, but I have read a number of warnings about emotional mood swings, tears, remorse, and so on being natural stages of dealing with the major changes you've made and are making. It's tough now, but it will get better. Hang on in there!

I know exactly where you're coming from! We were sleeved around the same time and I've been on edge lately too! I chalk it up to fluctuating hormones, being "hangry" (but really it's just head hunger), and the biggest one for me is not having the option to comfort eat. It's almost like I'm feeling trapped because my coping skills for dealing with stress and other negative emotions aren't as great as I'd like to believe they are.

We're adjusting to a totally new lifestyle and don't have the option to double back like we did in the past. It's one of the best things about WLS, but it also means that in the mean time, we have to deal with acclimating and temporary discomfort.

Hang on b/c it gets better. My first 2 months I was a b***h. I'll be the first to admit it. All the hormone changes with losing weight was hard to take. But I also realized that I use to depend on candy when I was "in a mood". Like happy....celebrate with candy. Mad....feel better with candy. It was my bff. After surgery I had to learn to deal with emotions and not eat my way thru them. I never realized how dependent I was on junk food.< br>After 8 weeks I started feeling like a normal person again. You will too. Luckily, it's just a phase.

As you lose weight, the chemicals and hormones that were stored in your fat cells are being released into your body. These will pass through your kidneys and are expelled in your urine. But they can generate a flush of hormones during the weight loss phase. They should simmer down once you transition into maintenance. It is important to meet your daily Fluid requirements, because it take fluids to flush these hormones from your system.

Hangry is the perfect description of my mood. Like my kids want to give me a snickers bar based on the commercial joke [emoji23][emoji23]

Thank goodness! Because I don't like the b*tch I have become. It helps to hear other people go through same thing. I'm so afraid I will be stuck like this.
Today, I'm going to exercise when I feel frustrated , etc....hopefully tone it down .

I was a wreck on the low carb, low fat preop and 2 week post op diets. Once I added back in carbs and fat, it's been smooth sailing. Even better than before the preop diet.

My day:

4oz cottage cheese

1 piece of fruit

1oz nuts or nut butter

4oz meat or fish

1 egg

4oz Beans or 8oz lentil Soup

I plan to add a salad when I can fit it in. I'm 3 months post op.

How long did it take for you to start eating nuts again? I'm almost 6 weeks out & have not been able to eat meat either

Mood swings are completely normal especially in the early stages. I can completely relate.

My NP also said that hormones and my monthly cycle could be affected. I've been having my period 2 weeks on then 2 weeks off which is enough to make someone grumpy. I'm seeing my PCP next week to see if my birth control needs adjusting. So if you're on any birth control check with your doctor/nurse to see if that needs to be changed to help regulate your hormones.

It gets better, I promise!

Nuts came late.. about 8 weeks postop. I don't always eat everything on that list.. most days I miss something.

I do seem to be able to eat more than average. 3 months out and can eat a cup of food. (Thought that was supposed to be a year out!).

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
