Any tips/tricks for getting all that water in?

Recommended Posts

Before surgery, I would drink unsweetened iced tea from morning to night. I've been good about giving up the tea, but just can't get this Water down. Got 64 oz one day....but usually get just 30-40 oz. I have health problems, so worry about dehydration. My best day, I drank 1 oz every 15 min....but still didn't get to 64!

pray tell....how do you do it?

What about sugar free popsicles? Other sources of liquid? It does get easier as you heal. Many people can drink a bottle of Water at once after they heal. It sounds like you are doing well and determined, you'll get there!

I have a 64oz bottle in my hand constantly which reminds me to take a drink and once I'm done I'm done. I get the sugar free Water flavor enhancers and that helps change it up.

Good luck!

I am day 3 post-op and am trying really hard to get all the Water in too! I found that standing while drinking helps some (relieves some pressure), also I tend to alternate between warm, room temp, and cold water.

I am curious why you gave up the unsweetened tea? I drink diet green tea everyday and it counts as do all fluids you drink including Protein Shakes, broth, coffee, etc..

I am 3 day post op also and I am having a hard time with the 1oz per 15 minutes. does everything we drink out of our 1oz cups counts toward our 640zs? even our Soup broths.

Yep. Even broth. 😊

I just posted this in the other thread, but it seems like when I drink warm green tea it doesn't hurt as much.

Water still hurts if I get carried away. I have a big cup (32oz) that I fill with iced tea 2x a day.

I'm 3 days post op ....still working to get all my Water in. Each day is easier. Plain water will cause a burning feeling. As long as I add a drop of mio flavoring, it goes down ok. Good luck

I am 3 months post op and still struggle with the Water sometimes. I bought a 40oz bottle made by Takeya from costco (2 for $30) and it keeps your cold drink COLD for 24 hours! It has made it a whole lot easier for me to drink my liquids. I also randomly add the sugar free water enhancers. For me it was super easy to drink 64oz before I added in solid food, the whole not drinking 30 mins before/after made it hard for me!

Has everyone given up caffeine? And is that for life?

I gave up caffeine 3 weeks pre op to help with not having it post op. It was hard at first but now I don't miss it. I tried to make a coffee Protein smoothie and hated it!!

My doctor said after 3 months I could have black coffee again but I'm just going to stay away for good!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
