Two pieces of advice....

1) Track/journal everything you eat, lick, digest, and taste. "Myfitness Pal" is a free app that you can download. I don't miss not even one day of tracking and I don't go off path from the program.

2) And move. People say exercise, I say "Activity"

Just remember, you did this for you, not for everyone else. So don't let people live this journey for you. It's your journey.

Do your research. Make sure you are ready to make the necessary lifestyle changes to be successful. If you need help with food addictions start therapy now.

i second what was said above about tracking your food and Fluid intake. Follow your doctors and or nutritionist eating plan. A positive attitude is helpful because there will be some tough days. Make a list of all the reasons you are having surgery and a list of NSV that you are looking forward too. This will be helpful when you are having a tough day.

walk as soon as you can after surgery as it is the best way to get rid of the gas.

Don't stockpile anything. I drove to the grocery after 8 hours in hospital. Ended up throwing out cases of expired shakes and Protein Powder. No matter what you do do not compare your progress to anyone. Stalls happen. Watch tv and don't obsess over them. Don't weigh every day. The less people you tell the less drama you encounter. Best wishes.

There can be great feelings of buyers remorse the first week or so after surgery. It's very helpful to have a trusted partner/friend/family member who can "check in on you" emotionally and provide reassurance. I was second-guessing my decision and was way too post-surgery brained to be able to remind myself this was all worth it. Best wishes!

How do they taste? Where do u get yours? Thx

I buy on amazon....it is a little cheaper, they have a website and they are at Walmart. Don't taste bad at all....I mix with Water so just a slight taste to the water. You can drink alone but I think really sweet

Number one piece of advice is to find a good therapist (ideally well before surgery)! Number two is trust the process. Even if you're a slow loser, if you follow the rules, the weight will come off!

The #1 thing I did that helped was to give up caffeine and carbonation before surgery. I used to live on Diet Coke so it would have been way hard to do it at surgery time. I'm almost 6 months post and I still haven't had any carbonation. I have a hard time getting in my Water so my nut suggested Decaf iced tea. I brew my own and it really helps. Also your tastes may change after staying on plan. Mine did. So don't stock up on anything yet. I bought extra Crystal Light and Protein Shakes and now I won't drink either.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
