Did anyone else not need a endoscopy??

Recommended Posts

I'm 19 & getting the sleeve at a hospital. My surgeon is great but doesn't want an endoscopy. (I need a H. Pylori test and blood work). I've seen other people say that they saw important things with the endoscopy before surgery. Do you guys think I should ask for one?

I didn't have one. 53, sleeved 18 days ago and all is well. I too did the h. Pylori and blood work an upper GI (checking for hiatal hernia) and an ekg followed by a stress test.

My insurance required one, egd. Looks for h. Pylori, GERD and signs of general inflammation. All these could be a decision point for a sleeve.

Egds are very easy with no prep. Go to sleep, wake up. Done.

I just had an endoscopy on 05 /30, But i think they do that when you already have GERD to see if there is a Hiatal Hernia or any other underling issue. My insurance states that they can fix a Hiatal hernia during surgery, IF it has been diagnosed prior to surgery. But if they find it during surgery, they will not cover the repair. So, that is part of the reason they do it in advance. I am sure every insurance is different. I have BCBS Illinois

My doctor would require it if I didn't have an endo and colonoscopy to check for crohn's in February. I think a lot of people get their hiatal hernias fixed during the sleeve surgery since you're already out.

You only get one for other pre-existing conditions that may interfere or can be taken care of during your surgery. I didn't need one.

I did but I had already turned 50, so my doctor got me to do one in April, ugh, sucked.

I had one. However, I am converting band to sleeve. On top of that I have had issues with food getting stuck, vomiting, and increase acid. They also wanted to ensure my band had not eroded into my stomach lining.

If in doubt or nervous I would ask them if they feel it is necessary to have it done prior to surgery.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
