Medically induced stress test?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am new here and so happy I found these forums!

Question-the only thing I am waiting for is to pass my stress test. It's scheduled for June 9th. They had tried to do a normal one on a recumbent bike but I completely lost my breath and couldn't complete it. So now I have to have one medically induced. I'm a little scared of this.

Has anyone here had to do that?

I'm 55 years old and the only tests I had was blood work, an endoscopy in my stomach and an ekg, you don't mention your age but if you are out of breath on a stress test it's best to make sure you can handle the stress you are about to put your body through.

Yeah had all those to. I'm sure if my body can't handle my doctors would deny me.

Yes. I had one. They did an ekg and discovered some weird delay. So they put an IV in and I walked on a treadmill. Then after a time I went into a machine where they looked at my heart. None of it hurt.
I wish you well!

Thank you, I know they inject something and that's what scares me.

If it's like the one I had it was fine. I know there's another type where you don't walk on the treadmill. Either way you'll be ok. Better to know what's causing the shortness of breath.

I'm allergic to cats and dogs and own two cats that are not going anywhere lol, if I had my inhaler with me I may have been able to at least try it again but with allergy related asthma, the faster I had to go I just couldn't get a full satisfying breath. That put me into panic mode.

But having an isotope injected into my bloodstream has me in a bit of panic mode also. This is the only test that I need to "pass". They have taken ultrasound pics of my heart and all my other organs and everything looks good, and I'm approved on all other tests.

I have to have a treadmill stress test done as well. Had 2 EKG's that came back adnormal so my doctor wants to make sure my heart it healthy enough for surgery. Mine is on June 13th, a little after yours. I'm nervous as well, but it's for the best and for our safety.

I had one it feels like your heart is going to jump out of your chest. It is way worse than a treadmill or bike test. Just mentally get ready for it. There was a moment there I was sure I was going to die.

A total of $40,000 in cardiac tests, nothing wrong with my heart.

There is now a new medicine they use for stress tests that doesn't make you feel like you are going to die. Not sure how widespread its use is yet, but keep your fingers crossed that you get the new stuff. The old stuff is/was the pits.

I'm sorry you have to go through this but focus on the positive; once you finish it, you'll be on your way to WLS! Something else I find, often the thing we're most worried about going through ends up being not a big deal. So try to calm your mind and not panic. You will be fine - let that be your mantra.

Or if you prefer a kick in your pants/tough love - time to put your big girl panties on and suck it up! :)

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
