Calcium Citrate with D3 (Maximum from Citracal)

Recommended Posts

I started the calcium citrate supplements yesterday. The brand I am using is Citracal. They are Calcium Citrate +D3 Maximum. I took my first dose yesterday. About an hour later, I had the worse pain since my surgery. I was nauseated, had elevated heart beat, and after pacing for about 30 mins, I ended up throwing up. I didn't have anything eat after I took the supplements. So I thought may be I took them all too fast. So this morning, I spaced the two tablets (15 mins apart). An hour later I had same reaction to the supplements. Has anybody experienced this? I am looking to feedback from you all on what my options are because clearly the current supplement will not work for me. Thanks in advance!

After surgery I discovered that I could no longer swallow medium to large pills. So I used pill splitters and pill crushers. This condition lasted for about 2 months and then things returned back to normal. Citracals are what I call horse pills. They are very large. In the beginning I had to crush the pills into powder and mix them with Crystal Light drink in order to take them. The main problem other than the fact that they tasted like chalk, was that they formed a paste at the bottom of the glass, so I had to refill my glass several times in order to get them to go down.

Thank you for sharing your experience! They are indeed horse pills. I called my physician and they suggested Calcet Creamy Bites. Honestly I am really scared to try the horse pills (even in crushed form), because they are know to cause vomiting/nausea (from what I have read so far on WebMD). So changing the course here completely. But who knows I might come back to crushing horse pills [emoji16]. Thank you again for putting my mind at ease.

I use the Citracal Calcium +D3 chewables. They taste pretty good and don't affect me weirdly. They have fewer carbs than some of the chewables or bites - I had some before that almost made me dump because of the sugar!

Make sure theres at least 2hrs between taking any Iron supplement and Calcium Citrate. The body can't absorb them at the same time.

Here's the Calcium - it's Caltrate, not Citracal, oops. It tastes fairly good (sort of like Sweet Tarts) so I tend to think of it as my daily candy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
