lap band revision to what?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for about 7 years. no problems until last year. I am having some tests done to see if i have band erosion. I know how the band works, I guess the sleeve is the next option if I have to have it removed. i want to go with the least extreme option. How does the sleeve work? Would you feel full like with a band? With the band, after 4-5 bites it feels like if I east one more bite it will be coming back up. Not sure what to expect from a sleeve. I am 69 and dont want to do anything drastic.

Thank you

DA

Hi,

As someone who has had a gastric balloon sleeve and finally rny, I would definitely reccomend the sleeve procedure. Even after 6 years, my doctor told me there has not been much deformity and that my pouch hasn't enlarged that much (and I must say that I got pregnant and kind of lost control over everything)

You do feel full, you do eat MUCH less than you normally do, in your case I don't suppose the feeling is any different than having a lap band. The best way is probably to consult your doctor (given that the operation may not be suitable for your age.)

Wish you the best!

I agree, the sleeve sounds like a good fit.

I'm a month post op with my sleeve, so just barely started eating soft foods. But in my experience I feel full sooner than feeling the need for anything to come back up. So eating feels normal.. just with the reduced amount.

I don't believe your age would be a factor in getting the sleeve, however your Doctors are the ones that would know best. I was 60 when I had my sleeve. If you eat Protein first you will be full within a few bites the first several months. Later (in my case about 10 months post op) I was able to eat about 3 to 4 ounces of protein at a time. However there is nothing to stop you from eating carbs and sweets. At 14 months post op I am fighting with my head hunger due to a lot of stress and discouragement in my life due to medical conditions I have, not being resolved after the weight loss. I am glad I went with the sleeve as I didn't want to do any other surgery and this one has helped with the weight loss. Just wish my other medical problems would have gone away as well. But I guess when your bones give out at our age there isn't much that can be done.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
