No energy, no motivation

I am a little over a year post-op. I am very limited on what I can eat. I eat no meat at all. My diet is mostly Greek yogurt with GENEPRO 4 times a day & popcorn. I have no energy, no strength, no motivation yet all my labs are in normal range. I do struggle with getting in enough liquids. Anyone else having this experience?

I can't imagine how your labs are normal with this diet.

Do you vomit if you eat meat? What about fruits and cooked vegetables?

You need to see your surgeon or a new doctor immediately.

This is not normal and your lack of energy is sign of malnutrition. To me it sounds like you have a stricture which can be treated

Call your surgeon as soon as possible. Something isn't right.

Well, I had gastric sleeve surgery on March 8, 2017, and I don't have any energy either. I can eat a small amount of fish and some vegetables if they are very soft. I'm taking my Vitamins and I, too, have problems drinking enough Water. I was hoping it would get better as time passed, but you are still dealing with these problems a year after surgery! My prayers are with you and I hope you find a doctor that can give you some good advice. Please share what you learn!

Sorry you are going through this. I was sleeved march 13th and have not had this issue. I do struggle with getting more than 50oz of liquid.

Call your surgeon. You might be having some nutritional deficiencies (B Vitamins , Iron and Magnesium)

I would say that since your surgery was recent, it is not abnormal to lack energy or motivation. Your body suffered major trauma and it is readjusting. Couple that with dealing with adjusting to changing meal plans and learning to embrace the changes, it tasks the body. Then there is the malnutrition aspect.
I found some exercise to be of some use in lifting my mood. However, I was nutrient deficient too. Some Multivitamin and B 12 and I was up and running again.
I hope you feel better soonest.

See your primary if your surgeon & nutritionist aren't helping you, truly it sounds like you are malnourished. Try baby food if you can't stomach any real food but I'd definitely go talk to someone I can't imagine anyone telling you that what your eating is good for you, sorry [emoji52]

What's limiting your ability to eat a full diet? Is it nausea, or do you vomit? And the same regarding liquids...do you have physical symptoms or do you just not drink enough? I 'struggle' with my liquids every day, but the struggle is getting my head to remember that I need to drink, not that Water bothers me.

I find myself wanting to eat easy foods and repeating the same foods over and over...it takes effort to say 'no, not having yogurt for Breakfast, cook an egg'.

You really need a visit with your surgical team/dietician to get you moved on to a wider range of foods. Your labs may be WNL now, but your body is telling you that you're not fueling it appropriately.

I would vomit initially but now it is a matter of just not wanting meat at all. I couldn't imagine eating meat now. I eat some vegetables but to be honest, I have no energy when I get home to even fix a salad. All I want is my yogurt. I have been back to my surgeon several months back who just feels like this is part of it. The only thing I haven't had checked is my Iron but my hemoglobin is normal. I am thinking of going to a hydration station .

There are vitamin patches sold in the BariatricPal Store that might help. They have worked well for me so far and it helps not having to take them by mouth.

Don't take this the wrong way but perhaps it is psychological... Maybe just mind over matter. If your program has a psychologist available why not go. Please don't take offence to what I said...

This is absolutely not normal. Being sleeved doesn't restrict our ability and need to eat a wide range of healthy food. St Et slowly and eat softer, moister Protein like fish, boneless, skinless chicken thighs, ground turkey. Mix in cooked veggies with good moisture. Protein substitutes are not our friends. That was for those first food stages when we couldn't eat real food. Now the focus is on lean meat, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Our goal should be 1200 or more calories and a moderately active lifestyle if we are women and still losing. Get support from NUT, counselor, friends and family. Best of wishes on your journey to health.

You did not state Protein amounts in grams, calorie amounts, liquid amounts, etc.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
