I'm doing mine in Mexico, I'm concerned about several things. 1) no doctor follow ups, 2) self control, 3) being sick to whatever stomach I have left. I have acid reflux now and am on meds. I can hurl over anything; coughing, dry throat, brushing my teeth. Surgery/anesthesia makes me nauseous and 4) what if I have some undiagnosed underlying issue such as hypothyroidism and I still don't lose like I expect?

All your fears are common and quite valid, but I just want to touch on the hypothyroidism.

I have it and take a mighty dosage of 175mcg daily. And you know what? I still took 20 pounds off within 7 days after my surgery--losing total of 34 pounds since 4/15. I'm losing 2 1/2 pounds a day, so it is possible to lose normally with hypothyroidism. Good luck and you'll do fine.

I had mine out 8 days ago and feel perfectly normal. I'm driving, shopping, going to baseball practices etc., and I even had my gallbladder out at the same time with my vsg. The first few days are tricky, but by the fourth day you're approaching the top of the hill and the rest is a breeze.

Good Luck!!!

Thank you, I appreciate your reply. May I ask? I'm on several meds for insulin resistance, hyper-aldosterone , hyperparathyroid, RLS, and kidney stones plus I take ambian (I just don't sleep without it). Am I just going off my meds?

I highly doubt they'll have you off your meds. I met with my anesthesiologist one week prior and she gave me a list of what I'm supposed to keep taking and what not. Prescription medication I stayed on, Vitamins I was off until I got home.

I'm only on my thyroid pill and so I kept taking that. They should tell you and probably will either before or the day of surgery. You'll be surprised how many pills you can swallow that first day. Heck, I swallowed two pills alone while in recovery, and many more later on. I remember being surprised how painless it was after reading how painful it was going to be. In fact, drinking for the first time was one of my big fears, and in the end, it was no big deal.

Looking to connect with anyone who is having their surgery preferably in June. A surgery buddy would be helpful I think!

My surgery is scheduled for June 19

Aetna Better Health approved me pretty quickly just waiting for my Dr to call and tell me when. June should be the month! Very excited too happy to be scared.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
