Go, South Bay sleevies! They'll take great care of you and you'll wake up in a seriously comfortable hospital bed, no joke. [emoji4]

I've heard the hospital beds at South Bay are super comfortable!!!

How long was it from finishing Options to your surgery date?

I got my approval to set up an appointment on Feb 13, my appointment was Mar 10, and then my surgery was March 27, because my Dr happened to have an opening that day. It was fast for me!

How about you?

I just finished Options two days ago. Waiting to get scheduled for my final appointment with the head of the program then I get scheduled to see the surgeon. Trying to be patient!

It was about two weeks between finishing Options and the scheduling OK. My options person said that's how long it always takes. It was a hard two weeks!

Hi everyone -- I am having my surgery tomorrow in Toronto. But -- am moving to Santa Monica at the end of the month-- but have already been living there and had to come back for a bunch of things so scheduled the surgery here -- so am on the west side !!

It would be great to meet and see if we can support each other -- the sooner the better!!

I hope your surgeries have gone well. Would be great to hear how you are all doing and look forward to connecting soon.

Hi that sounds great --- I am still in Toronto --- will be back in LA soon but will have family with me and then going back to Toronto for a bit - - but should be back in LA on Sept 21 or 22 till 27th. Then back early October forever i hope!!

My surgery was July 31st - it all looked fine but i ended up back in the ER last week -- what happened to me is very uncommon and I actually believe it was due to three prior abdominal cancer related surgeries even though the last one was in 2004 but it provided a perfect opportunity for this to happen to me -will spare the details because this truly a on in a million thing and i know other people who have had this here and are poster children for this procedure!! So that is why i wan to come back here and just have some follow up reassurance.

It that week in September is good -- you can see how you recovery is going -- that would be great for me but October is also good! I have done a lot of bike riding in Calabasas --it's beautiful there and there is a restaurant there I love ( of course!) so will be interesting to go back there post sleeve.

I am also going to contact UCLA to explain my situation to them and see if they will take me on as a post op patient so I have local doctors and also assume they have some sort of ongoing support/educational groups.

Best of luck to you these next few weeks -- i really found i went on autopilot with my shakes getting ready for the surgery -- just avoided grocery stores !! I look forward to forming a LA group!!

What are some of your favorite places in LA for healthy eating?

It's a bit pricy, but I like the Fresh Corn Grill because they have lower carb options (so long as you decline the bread) and are tasty. I also like Zankou chicken and Wahoo Fish Tacos (they have paleo bowls that are low carb).

I had my surgery at Kaiser West LA on June 22. Took my Options classes at Panorama City. Let me know if you have any questions!

I would love to hear about your experience. I have been researching this extensively and have so many questions!

Do you still do low carb only? Is this surgery's success contingent upon a life long diet?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
