Hey, I have a great Idea for a creative exercise. It is called Geocaching. Geo as in Earth. Caching (cash) as in a pile or store of something.

You can find the website at Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site This is a high-tech treasure hunt. There are caches all over the world and I bet there are TONS of them near you. You don't have to go out and spend tons of $$$ on a fancy GPS. Mine cost about $70 and does just as good.

Now get a GPS and get out there and find some caches!

For those that don't have a GPS, there is a similar treasure hunting activity called letterboxing. You only need a compass (and know how to use it!) and the directions are like "20 paces north from the last fence post", etc. Letterboxing North America for more info.

I have gone geo caching before, its a lot of fun!
