I am fixing to start this journey. On April 13 I have my consult. I have been pouring over the internet for weeks looking into all aspects....reflux...surgery...recovery and the comments of complications are scaring the **** out of me. Are people happy for the most part? Do most people have serious complications? I have a history of tough cesarean sections. I have been cut like a cross with ports and had placental abruption. But this is scaring me. I need some encouragement!

To me not having surgery is the scary part. My back, my knees, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Not being there for my kids. I'm in pain daily.

I've had two csections but not like a cross incision my first my epi wore off and I felt everything. I've had a lap band that will have similar incisions and it is way easier than my csections. They really are small incisions even compared to a regular csection. There will be soreness but not like you remember. I had gall bladder surgery too and lap band was easier. Walk early and take your meds and you will do great. Good luck!!!

It's not that bad I had my surgery March 28th of this year and my incisions never hurt -it's just the gas but you have to walk walk walk to get that gas out ofthe. I'm one week post I'll feel pretty good just a little tired and weak but otherwise not fine no pain

I'm right there with you. I went to my first support group meeting yesterday. A gentlemen that had gastric bypass a few years ago was one of the speakers. He looked amazing, He started out at 500lbs and is now 210lbs. so I was like dang, he looks really good! and i was inspired at first...

what scared me the most was hearing his experience. He didn't fully listen to the physician and take his Vitamins, and neglected to take his Calcium. well he said ALL of his teeth fell out. I was sitting there like damn!!... I never heard of that happening before, and it was all due not having calcium!... and he said he mainly suffered from dehydration because you literally have to sip, or it really hurts and it came back up for him... unfortunately i haven't gotten to meet anyone who had been sleeved.

I too am having doubts.... part of me want to do it for the same reason you mentioned... its scary... because there is no way of knowing what will happen the day of or after... part of I think just needs to stop thinking... I think in the end it will be worth it as long as we listen to the physicians and follow what they say to a T..

perhaps his case is a rarity. I have zero problems drinking or eating. I take my Vitamins religiously. Im sleeved however.

It's a difficult decision. Think a million times. I developed GERD due the sleeve. It makes things difficult and sad.

I'm in the same boat. I have gone to two consults and have a 3rd on May 1st. Scariest thing for me is the Hair loss. I'm 5'8 and weigh 260. Dr. wants me to lose 15 lbs before surgery. Have thyroid disorder which makes it extremely hard for me to lose weight. I keep going back and forth..do it or no?

Let me put it in perspective for you...Die young from preventable obesity related diseases or live a full life with a much better quality of life. Have you ever seen a 300lb 80 year old? Neither have I...

Another possible prespective, living with long-term risk of complications due to the surgery, such as strictures. None of us are assured to live that long.

I am scheduled May 3rd. I have done a lot of research and switched surgeons because I wasn't happy with my first one. I started this whole process almost a year ago. I think that there are a lot of chances with this but you have to be in the right mind set and be committed to this kind of thing. For me I am fortunate to not have health issues besides being over weight. I'm just tired of not living life. This surgery is going to help me get my life back. The support group I go to has a lot of members and all of them said their only regret is not having it done sooner. I know the risks involved and my surgeon is amazing. He thinks everything should go great. Make a list of pros and cons. For me the cons couldn't compare to the pros. It's your choice and your body. I wish you the best! May 3rd can't come soon enough!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
