What Are You Packing To Take To The Hospital?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering what everyone's taking to the hospital????

My packing list:

  • robe to cover my big hinny while I'm walking the floor after surgery
  • slippers
  • charger for phone and ipad
  • toiletries & toothbrush
  • hair brush & scrunchie
  • loose fitting clothing to wear home or dress (tummy will be tender so I don't want any pressure on it)

The most helpful tips I got here were for extension cord, face wipes, privates wipes, chapstick, Listerine tape, slippers, loose gym shorts to wear under hospital gown.
Least useful were gas-x.
Post op I wish I had asked for a copy of the contract beforehand, and a list of the hospital amenities. I wish I had kept a log or diary. I can't remember the surgery day (after surgery like where I woke up.) It would have helped my recall for doctor review and family questions.

I used my charger, chapstick and robe - my unit was an ice box. I didn't use anything else. My hospital provided toothbrush and toothpaste and basic cleansing items.

My surgery was last Thurs and I definitely over packed. The clothes I wore there was what I wore home. I used my chapstick. Hospital had toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, etc) but I brought my own as well. I brought a robe but never used it. I just doubled up in the hospital gown. My goods never showed while walking the halls. Also, never used my slippers. The hospital socks had a lot of traction and were helpful for me when walking. And phone charger of course

I had RNY in October of 16 and had very little pain (except getting out of the hospital bed) and I had to bring my own CPAP machine. They did a "safety check" on it and they had to set it up for me for some reason.

Phone, kindle, some toiletries, comfortable/ loose clothing, slippers and gasX strips.

I'm not anticipating much dry mouth bc my surgeon allows Water after surgery but in case yours doesn't/ you don't know I'd bring biotene too.

I'm one year past my surgery and I'd like to give you girls some advice, let me suggest bringing a pair of earplugs and a sleep mask, if you share a room you may be trying to sleep while your roommate is watching TV or having guests and noone wants to be kept awake directly after surgery. I know most ladies aren't ready for it but a lot of us end up having a cycle while we are there so I would suggest bringing sanitary pads, also I know people want to bring bathrobes but they aren't always easy to access to put on over your IV in that regard I would bring comfortable loose shorts so that you can cover you bum without being uncomfortable. Everyone should bring a pillow for your car ride home to place it between your belly and your seatbelt because otherwise you will be in great discomfort also again ladies I would suggest wearing a sports bra for after your surgeries the clips from regular bras will cause pain and fussing to put them on in the first place will be uncomfortable. To keep myself occupied I had also brought a coloring book and colored pencils, minor hygiene items -although the hospital will most likely have everything you need, sometimes using things from home make you feel better, slippers, phone charger and for your trip home I would also suggest something loose like a pair of sweatpants and unless you have someone to tie your shoes I suggest slippers because you're not going to want to bend over. Sorry, not trying to babble here, just trying to give advice of what you may need vs what you may want with you.

anything worth doing is Never easy

@Shrinking_Shamrock Wow thanks! great thoughts to ponder and suggestive ideas. ear plugs and sleep mask sound perfect. I got literally no sleep when i had my VSG in 2014. If the nurses weren't coming in to do vitals I could hear this dinging sound from the hall, someone dropped something very loudly, my husband snoring hahahaha. Great suggestions.

Reading it's never easy tells me to prepare for an uphill battle huh? UGH i am so scared of the pain.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
