A week and 1/2 post op

Recommended Posts

I never realized how much of a real addiction food was until now. I'm not hungry at all but yet I'm always thinking about food. Always.. Foods I wish I could eat right now. Foods that sound do good!! Constantly thinking about what I could possible get away with eating and cheating on my post op diet. I don't cheat though. I just sit here and sip my Protein Shake and Water and daydream. I feel ridiculous.

It really is a mind challenge. Any addiction is hard to overcome. Maybe try finding support groups in your area for that or bariatric groups. I have the same problem and have been thinking maybe a therapist to help me before I have surgery.

I was perfectly capable of going back to work a week after surgery. I took my whole four weeks just to get used to not eating. Not socializing around food. Getting used to watching food commercials and knowing I couldn't have it. Crazy for sure!

I am 4 days post op and I had a break down and cried today because my head wanted a Mcdonalds cheeseburger so badly. I have been doing the exact same thing, I am right here with you! Glad I am not alone!

I promise you it gets easier. The head hunger messes with you but it does subside. I'm 8 weeks post op and down 60 pounds. I just follow my surgeons guidelines and it works. So hang in there.

I'm six days post op and it's the exact same thing for me. I'm sitting here sipping Water, broth and Jello, while thinking about deviled eggs and cole slaw haha . I get my first protien shake today and I'm pretty excited for it. I am also not hungry really at all but my head is just like fooooood!!!

I realized this tendency about myself years before surgery and spent three years working with a therapist that specializes in eating disorders and weightloss. Thoughts of food shouldn't plague you and I can verify that with good treatment, they won't. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND seeking therapy to ensure your surgical tool (the pouch) is most effectively utilized for the rest of your life. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
