Feeling hungry all the time

Recommended Posts

Hello im 3 months post op. I'm going through what I hope is a phase, where I'm hungry alllll the time. Like I'll eat and be full.. but 10 minutes later I'm hungry again. I'm literally just always hungry. It wasn't like this up until about a week ago. It's worrying me and I just hope it's a phase or something.

I am also 3 months post VSG and I feel similar. But it comes and goes, I notice it especially on days that I burn more calories and am more active. I think I also need to drink more Water which would curb the hunger.

VSG date: 11/22/16
HW: 225. SW:222. CW: 192

After RNY gastric bypass surgery, I completely lost my hunger. This experience did not last forever. It lasted about a year and then my hunger returned except it was not as strong as pre-surgery.

Generally this experience of losing hunger begins once you enter the solid stage. So if you are not experiencing this from day one, give it a little time.

If you are allowing too many carbs into your diet, that may be the cause of the hunger.

I do not know if this loss of hunger is solely experienced by those with RNY gastric bypass surgery or if sleeve and duodenal switch patiences also experience this condition. Perhaps those who underwent that type of surgery can chime in with their experiences.

Oh goodness ok I had my surgery in 2007 at 357lbs and today I am 132lbs! So during my journey I have had plenty of trial n errors but I wasn't afraid to admit it and ask for help. Listen 3 things you can't go without or skimp on no matter what is 80oz of Water, prescribed Vitamins and 25grams of Protein 2x a day! If you don't your gonna feel hungry, your gonna feel tired your gonna loose your hair your gonna over eat your gonna get light headed! Also really don't eat little bits of food through the day it's known as grazing and defeats the purpose of what the surgery is intended for. Weight loss... don't focus on the what failed instead focus on the why? Trust me it's going to get better and your going to love the new you!

I'm four months post op and I had the same thing at about three months where I was hungry all the time. In fact I still get hungry but not as much as I did a month ago. Must just be a phase our bodies go through.

I have the same experience! I've been hungry since 2 days post op! Now I'm 2 months out and can eat denser Protein it's better... But I was led to believe my hunger would be gone.. Not increased! 😣

I'm 5 days post off on the full liquid diet and starving right now; mostly OK during the day. I'm drinking lots of fluids though!

It will, keep the faith! I felt like you and can't believe I'm 3 1/2 months out already. It's coming and remember you why and Celebrate even the smallest of victories. Congrats!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
