Do I have to have my blood pressure controlled before surgery

Recommended Posts

I was suppose to have my surgery on Feb 14th but had to be rescheduled because my blood pressure is high, like extremely high, so my pcp wont sign off for my surgery. Now my new surgery date is March 14th and im afraid it will have to be rescheduled again because my pressures are still high. Has anyone had this issue before??

My surgeon didn't like my blood pressure (mid 130s over mid 80s every time I went to see him) because he said it can go haywire during surgery if it's not controlled beforehand and that's dangerous. For me it was anxiety. He still went ahead with it. After surgery it's really good. My last visit just a week post surgery it was 106/70.

Do they have you on blood pressure meds? If not, they absolutely should to give you time to adjust.

I was hypertensive before surgery. I was told to discontinue my hypertension medications 2 days before surgery. They didn't want the medication interacting with their peri/intra-op medications..

I also had to discontinue my meds two days before surgery. I still take meds for it, but it's a much lower dose.

Makes me wonder.. I'm on those meds myself (HCTZ/metoprolol). Thus far nobody has said anything about needing to be off those but still ages away. I believe I also have 1 more pre-op appointment with my surgeon a week or two before surgery so maybe I might get the news there.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
