In 4 days I hit the one month mark since gastric. I had been at the 3 week stall and all of the sudden I lost 2 lbs. I was super excited. Yesterday all I had for the day was almost one full Protein Drink and I made tacos for my family. I took a little of the 90/10 hamburger meat , a little of the light sour cream, a sprinkle of the cheese, and about a tsp of fresh salsa and mixed ut up. That was my dinner. Tell me why I woke up almost 2 lbs heavier?!?! I am seriously so upset. It's like im never supposed to eat. Very discouraged. I know this is tmi but I haven't used the bathroom in like 5 days but dont feel like I need to either.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.

After surgery I was drinking 3 Protein Shakes a day in order to get the minimum daily requirements of protein. According to my directions from my surgeon, I was told not to transition to solids until week 9. Your stomach needs time to heal. Your weight will vary by time of day and the amount of clothing you are wearing. This can be as much as 5 pounds. Also Water weight can be an issue. So I don't think what you ate yesterday accounted for you 2 pounds weight gain. Just remember, the weight loss phase is short and it is important to maximize your weight loss during this time because sooner than later you will naturally slide into the maintenance phase.

Might be salt having you gain Water.

Might be poop.

Hard to tell. Our bodies are fickle on the day to day weight loss; we need to look at it over time. I've been at a stall too, and gained 2 lbs from where I was 1/2 week ago.

You need to eat your daily Protein requirement and get in your fluids. The fluids are super important! And if you don't get in your Protein, your body is going to start consuming your lean muscle mass. You want it to be using up your fat stores -- the muscle is what keeps your metabolism up so you burn more calories.

Stick with the diet your dietician/nutritionist gave you at your surgery center, and if they didn't give you one you can certainly get that advice here from those going through it. Protein and fluids, fluids and protein! :780_sparkling_heart:

You need to make sure your getting in your minimum Protein levels and Water. Only one protein drink and a small bit of meat with cheese sounds like you would be well short. When you then consider your activities that result in calorie burning (walking and moving in general) you probably had a lack of fuel to keep it burning. You will not lose if your body does not have the protein to keep burning.

Remember, it is a marathon, not a sprint...try not to weigh yourself everyday, but keep track of of nutrients, get in your minimum requirements, keep moving and it will happen.

You got this!

I am not a doctor, but this is what my doc told me...

You need Protein and Water to lose weight. Those two, when combined as food intake, force your body to use its' fat stores for energy. Your body doesn't want to lose weight. As a matter of fact, your body wants to GAIN weight. That is all it knows. It doesn't know when you are at a perfect weight. It just wants to avoid starvation.

With that in mind, also realize that your body is undergoing severe changes right now. I personally wouldn't weight myself day to day because I know that these weight fluctuations, although normal, can be distressing. I would only concern myself with weekly or monthly goals right now. In order for your body to gain 2lbs you would have to consume 2lbs. You clearly did not. Do not worry about this right now. Focus on meeting your water and protein goals for each day. The weight will come off in time.

We are all going thru the same thing. Keep your eye on the end result, not the day to day scale readings. Keep your protein and water intake going, the weight will come off. You will succeed! Hang in there and give it time!!!

I always gain a couple before I start my period. I don't lose for that week (or lose really slowly) and then when it's done, I'll lose the two I gained plus more.

I have Mirena, so I spot and not bleed, but I know when it's coming by the scale. I suspect it happened the same way before surgery and I never noticed because I didn't weigh myself.

Possibly the salt content for the taco seasoning

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
