Dr. Lopez Corvala in Tijuana

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Lopez Corvala at Angeles Hospital? I was surprised that I have not seen his name mentioned at all. From my research, he sounds pretty impressive. Is this orum sponsered by certain drs. Is that why? Anyways if anyone has had gastric sleeve or any other procedure with Dr. Lopez Corvala in Tijuana at Angeles Hospital, I would LOVE to hear about your experience. Thank you!

Hi, I had surgery 2 years ago in October 2014 with him, he was an amazing Dr. I started at 217 lbs and dropped down to 134 after my sleeve(my lowest weight) in 6 months, the nurses were amazing and answered any questions that I had. The translations wasn't difficult because I put the translate app on my phone. I now weigh 165 lbs because I'm trying to get pregnant and the meds I've been on(clinic) is actually making me gain weight. If you have any more questions feel free to email me at nikkialex34@hotmail.com and I will respond as quickly as possible. Good luck to you!

kinipela24 - good question. I am scheduled to have surgery on March 6th with Dr. Corvala. I have what is probably nature nervousness but have only heard good things about him out on the net. I do have two nieces that went to him and have no regrets. Fingers crossed I have the same experience.

That is coming up Stone52! I am planning on doing it mid June, haven't talk to my PCP yet or psychiatrist (suffer from depression), haven't made a deposit, set a date, or currently have a passport and I'm worried lol. Granted, I am getting on these things. Waiting for my birth certificate from my mom in the mail and have appointments to see those drs this month. Kind of worried about the response I will get. Please let me know how everything goes.

I will let you know my impressions of the facility and Dr. Corvala. I have researched like crazy and feel I am informed but it still feels desperate to be going to Tijuana for surgery. I checked where I live in Cali and I was quoted $17,500. Dr. Corvala is charging $6,500. I know my life is worth the difference but he has very good credentials and I am self pay. My insurance won't cover the procedure because I don't have enough co-morbid issues. I too have depression, mainly anxiety. I notice a lot of folks on here mention that but I don't think that is a surprise. Being overweight isn't fun. Hang in there and get that passport!

Dr. Corvala is one of the great grandfathers of weight loss surgery! He taught many of the bariatric surgeons in Mexico as well as proctored many US surgeons back in the day. He's very highly respected and you're in fantastic hands. Please let us know how things go!

I'm recently back from seeing Dr. Corvala (Feb. 20). He was great. Hospital Angeles was very nice and modern. I stayed an extra night at Hotel Lucerne. I would allow for an extra day with this surgery.

Thanks so much for replying. Did he talk to you before and after? How was the pain? Did he give you a post op diet and a post op plan?

I had sleeve surgery with Dr. Corvala February 2016 and my sister just had her surgery on April 6th. Nothing but positive things to say about the experience. I am ten pounds away from goal weight so I am pretty happy with the results. I have my story on the my surgery section of my profile.

My sister didn't get a suite at the hospital so my bed was a couch but it was pretty comfy.

I will be seeing Dr. Lopez Corvala on August 21st. Im excited and nervous. Anyone else going to be in Tijuana during that time? I will be traveling alone and Im a bit worried about packing wnd hauling my luggage around in the airport, as i have a connecting flight. Is tgis a valid concern, or were you all able to fly home relatively comfortable and mobile? Thanks!

I was hoping to get an update on how everything went. I have been approved for the Gastric sleeve surgery from 3 different places/doctors in Tijuana. Trying to decide on who to use. Hoping to get great feedback on this doctor.

I am getting sleeved by Dr. Corvala next Thursday, 3/22/18. I am excited but nervous all at the same time. I have spent a lot of time researching and reading reviews, so far I like what I have seen about him and his staff. I have a friend that had used him a couple years and my PCP's daughter went to him last summer..... Nothing but great things to say about him. I would love to hear more feedback from others that may have gone to him.

6 days and counting......

I'm getting the sleeve on the same day as you! Good luck! I'm very excited! Are you doing the liquid diet? I'm having a terrible time with this. It's very hard when you're hungry to only drink!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
