I don't drink beer (no carbonation). I don't tolerate red wine anymore. Liquor gives me ferocious heartburn. Postop all I can have is white wine. However, alcohol has plenty of carbs and I am on carb restriction for life so I have to budget my carbs if I'm going to have wine.

Do NOT drink until at least 9 weeks out. It would probably be best to wait 3-6 months or more.

Type.. is whatever doesn't make you deathly ill. Keep in mind that 1 drink post surgery equals 2-3 drinks before.

People have died from relatively low consumption, and plenty of patients end up transferring addictions and become alcoholics. Please be extra careful.

If you're dying for something, have a sip. See how it goes. If it goes well, have another sip. If it doesn't go well, you're not ready. Be careful and good luck.

I would wait a year and then decide not to bother.

Just not worth it.

I abstained for about 9 months (my 6 month pre-op diet program and 3 months post-op). Now, I have some red wine or whiskey and Water occasionally. It hasn't hampered my progress in the least bit.

I talked with my NP about it before I had any alcohol. On days where I know I will have drinks, I usually have Protein shakes to meet my Protein goal while keeping the calories low to accommodate the alcohol. I don't like not eating, so I don't do this often. Right now, we are in the middle of carnival in New Orleans, so I'm having a little more, but I've still lost half a pound since Thursday, so everything is going as it should.

Good luck!

Juisjitsu is right. It's definitely a risk. Good luck!

I didn't wait as long as a probably should have. Maybe 2-3 months. I usually do vodka and Water or rum and water. I'm at a point where I can have a beer if I take it kind of slow, but it doesn't really sit right and I don't enjoy it anyway.

It's odd to me, but I don't feel any more sensitive to alcohol now than I did before surgery. It doesn't hit faster or last longer. Maybe it balanced out because I don't mix it with caffeine anymore. I don't know.

I was told to wait 6 months. I'm not a big drinker so it's not bothering me at the moment but I do like to have a glass of wine at special events/locations. I have a wedding this summer (I will be 6 months weeks out) and that will likely be my first glass of wine since Thanksgiving. It's not much different than abstaining when I was pregnant.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
