Only 4 pounds lost since surgery on 1/30

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling very devastated. I had surgery on 1/30/17 as of today i have only lost 4 pounds. I am eating 600-800 calories, getting 80 grams of Protein and eating less the 40 carbs per day. I drink 96oz of Water and i walk 2-3 miles per day. Can someone please give me advise or support? I never expected weight loss to be so slow.

Same here. Mine was 1/31 and I've only lost 6. I get all my Water, Protein and I walk everyday. I go see my surgery tomorrow, so I'll see why the slow weight loss.

I know it's sooooo damned hard and frustrating but hide your scale or have someone else do it and just stick to your Dr's plan only weigh @ your appointments and you'll be a lot less disheartened I promise!!!

My weight loss has been slow also but then I thought about all the junk I was eating before I got sleeved. All the fat is stored. Once our bodies come out of the shock we have them, the pounds will come off! Hang in there.

You're too early out. Your body is still recovering. You will lose, and it will likely speed up a great deal. Weight loss in month 1 means nothing about the overall success of the surgery--it's an anomaly. Stick to the plan and in six months you'll know exactly what kind of weight loss you've got.

I was told to eat 200-400 calories per day until week four. I had my sleeve on Feb 11 and have lost 15 pounds. I've attached the plan my nutritionist gave me.

This is some of the worst post op nutritional advice I have seen in print and they had the nerve to put it in a table.

This plan is guaranteed to ruin your metabolism and have you on starvation rations for the rest of your life.

I don't even understand that first week information. I had more than 200 calories in the hospital before they would discharge me. I had a Protein shake, broth and Jello within 24 hours of my surgery. I had 3 Protein shakes a day for the first week, hitting 90 grams of Protein a day. I'm 19 months out and I eat about 1500 calories a day and I am still losing. I never or very rarely go over 25g of carbs a day. And I'm not active beyond walking.

OP keep your carbs under 25 and increase your protein to 100.

How are you hitting 40 carbs anyway on those calories?

I am so sorry to hear this, with deep respect I suggest that you have your blood panel done to include your Thyroid checked and I suspect that your hormones are at fault here. Stress hormones specifically. Have the reverse T3 checked and find out what the ratio is with your T4. Could be off and if it is see an endocrinologist. They fix metabolisms.

This should help! Best wishes

Wow you are getting in a lot for less then a month post. I'm 2 1/2 months post and not sure I've had even one day yet that was 600 calories. I am 300-500 calories for majority of days but now when I go to an event I may get up to 800 calories max on that day only

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
