Approved but scared.

Recommended Posts

I felt the EXACT same thing. I was so excited for the approval phone call, but once I got it BAM reality hit that this was really going to happen. If I had been denied then it wouldn't have been me making the choice and I could blame insurance. All the way up to the day of my surgery (really up to the minute) I was thinking of ways to get out of it. The only reason I went through with it really is was I didn't want to look bad to my family. However, I had my RNY on 10/19/16 and I can say now I am SO glad I did it. There were some rough weeks not just physically but I was an emotional mess as well. After those first few weeks I started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and it was beautiful! I'm 63lbs down so far, my sleep apnea has resolved already and within three months my cholesterol went from 315 to 178! I just feel healthier and have more energy. I won't lie to you and say it will be a walk in the park(although for some it is) but it is so worth every struggle. My best wishes for you and if ya need to talk I'm here.

It's normal. I was scared all the way up until they wheeled me off to the operating room. You will do fine. Just remember the outcome. Good luck!

Yes, up to the day of my surgery I was feeling like that. Even more when they took me in the room. What make me start relaxing is the wonderful team I had letting me know that everything will be ok.

From me to you, everything will be ok. Look pass the surgery and look to a brand new YOU.

I would say that you would have to be crazy not to be scared. Having surgery is scary. I remember when I was being wheeled into the operating room I was talking to a group of doctors and they asked me if I was scared. I told them that I was but that I didn't have the choice of me not having the surgery. They questioned me saying "you always have a choice". I replied, if I don't have this surgery I will be dead before I turn 30, so to me it's not a choice it's an inevitably. Either I have the surgery and live or don't have it and die. At my highest weight I was 540 pounds, I now weigh 250. This surgery saved my life and it was the best decision of my life. Be strong and remember that you are choosing to have a better life. Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
