Got my surgery date- now super nervous!

Recommended Posts

I'm 2/14. And beyond nervous I'm so close only to now start thinking if I'm doing the right thing! I'm not worried about the pain it's the anesthesia part I don't like I never had major surgery before

It was my first surgery as well and now that I have had it, I feel like it is a gift from god. I fell asleep, a few hours later (which felt like minutes to me), I wake up and it's all done. Medical technology is amazing!!

This is my first time posting as well. My surgery is on Friday and I am definitely nervous. I am not really nervous about the procedure as I used to be an operating room nurse and was involved in many surgeries. I am more nervous about afterwards- I have never been normal weight in my adult life and I am anxious about how this will change my life. Like most of you I have lost and gained more weight than I can count but when I get to a certain point something happens subconsciously and I put it all back on. I am glad to have this resource and plan to use it!

I backed out 2 years ago literally almost on the table. It was not the right time for me. I needed to prove to myself I couldnt do it on my own. Fast forward 2 years later and I went back to the same surgeon and said "Im ready to let you help me save my life now". It took me 2 years to come to terms with the fact that 1) I was morbidly obese it wasnt all muscle 2) not matter what I do in my life, my body and genetics will not let me shed the weight.

Last minute jitters are normal, its a major life decision and you need to be 100% sure you are ready. My issue the first time around was that I did literally zero preparation and research and simply jumped into it as a fix all scenario. I since have done tons of reading and research and asked tons of people who have had the procedure. The common statement I receive is "its the greatest decision I have ever made".

If you need to , postpone the surgery date for a few weeks or months and give it another shot to lose weight on your own. then move forward if you need to. Youll thank yourself later as there will be zero regrets.

I cried in the shower the morning I was supposed to get my surgery 2 years ago. I wasnt ready mentally. You really need to be mentally prepared to move forward, trust me. took me 2 years to mentally prepare myself for this. Im scheduled Feb 27th.

I have had multiple surgeries in life. Left knee, right shoulder twice, left bicept, tonsils and a vasectomy...lol...The surgery itself is nothing. Your lying there on the table, get drousey and then wake up in recovery. You usually dont remember anything you said or were told right before you pass out. The recovery part is different for everyone. most of my surgeries I woke up fine, one I vomited all night from the anesthesia. One surgery I woke up in pain till they hit me with the pain meds, most of them I woke up not in pain...Its normal to fear the unknown.

Youll do fine. And remember, the surgery is the easy part...

I'm tentatively 7 days out from my surgery pending a visit to the cardiologist tomorrow, and am starting to get super nervous and anxious also. I know this is something I really need to do, but get the occasional doubt that I want to do it..This is a very hard thing to deal with for some reason.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
