I'm looking for suggestions to Vitamins you all took prior to surgery and could continue during. I am so very afraid to loose my long healthy hair. Any suggestions or tips are welcome. Thank you in advance.

P.S: My surgery is set for February 21,17. Nervous!

My nutritionist has me on Probiotics (to help the stomach post-op), Calcium 3x a day, and B12 (but I take a B complex pill for the other benefits). I've also been taking a Multivitamin, Vitamin C, and extra Biotin as well, to help counter (maybe) the Hair loss. The last bit I've been taking since November, but the NUT recommendation has been since mid-January (probiotics were recommended to start as early as possible, but I only got my hands on some a couple weeks ago). My surgery is Feb. 9th. I have to say, that since I started taking the Vitamins, I feel so much better and more energetic.

What specific Vitamins may I ask?

I'm not sure - I'm guessing it's the B12 and other B Vitamins that are making me feel better, as that seems to be a common result for people. I've never taken before, so I'm going to assume it's that.

Also, when I first started taking Biotin, I noticed a kind of tingling sensation over my scalp on a daily basis - that lasted at least six weeks (I don't feel it anymore). I can't tell if it really had an effect or not. I'm also using Biotin Shampoo and conditioners to help - they certainly give my hair more volume and thickness, but at the expense of softness.

I took lots of Vitamins etc etc for the first year and it didn't stop the hair loss. The reality is that if you have it, you have it and need to just remember that it will eventually come back. Initially i had about 12 inches cut off my hair too, into a bob, which I love now.

I stopped taking Biotin after a year and just used thickening shampoo's and conditioners which has helped it to look thicker. My hair has stopped falling out recently. In the big scheme of things, it wasn't a worry. I'd rather have thinning hair for a number of months than be as obese as I was. Best wishes for the surgery!!

I lost a shocking amount of hair and had to have the remainder cut short, as did my sleeve buddies.

I saw a dermatologist who told me that it either happens to you or it doesn't and no amount of Protein or Vitamins can stop it.

But it's temporary and will grow back.

All three of us now have regrowth. I use minoxidil because the dermatologist recommended it. I also use a lasermax comb. I do take Nourkin tablets as well as Biotin.

Not sure any of it helps.

I don't mind the new bob. I am too scared to dye my new regrowth so look a bit skunkish, that I do mind.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
