This is a post for anyone whose two years out from their surgery. I'd like to know if your results exceed expectations, fall within a reasonable range, or stop short. (I like alliteration today.)

The above is a link to your expected calculator. It provides bypass, sleeve, and lapband numbers so be sure you're looking in the correct category

I am almost 2 years out. I put in my starting weight of 294 and my height. It said I could expect to lose 120 pounds. I actually lost 178 pounds. I guess that put me in exceeding expectations.

What should I enter as my starting weight? My weight when I first started looking int WLS? My weight prior to my 2-week pre-op diet? My weight the day of surgery?

If I go by my weight the day of surgery, it's pretty accurate. I was two years out in September.

Congratulations to both of you.

@JamieLogical. That is a really great question. I'm rereading to see if it specifies, but I'm not seeing that information anywhere.

I HOPE mine is wrong. I will work to hard exceed expectations because mine is only giving me 88 frickin' pounds and I need a lot more than that gone...lol. That puts me 30lbs over my goal weight which is 30lbs over what I should weigh.

With this calculator, just remember, people aren't numbers! It gives an average expectancy, but those individuals for whom they gathered the norms, had different personal standards. What I mean by that is maybe they didn't follow their program to a "T", maybe they didn't exercise as much as you, maybe they allowed more carbs. Everybody's plan is different and everybody's willingness to follow the plan is different too. There are way too many variable in weight loss surgery patients, to say this is what you can expect. Look at all the vets on here who have lost all of their excess weight and have been able to maintain it. @@JamieLogical is a great example! Just work the program the right way, have patience through the process regardless if it takes a couple of years, and don't give up on yourself because you don't think you will loose more than what that calculator says.

I agree that it's possible to lose more, but I've also read that these calculators are usually accurate to the pound for the majority of compliant patients. Less compliant patients have less results, meaning that for a lot of people getting beyond that number is more a matter of going the extra mile rather than just following plan.

It seems like the starting weight would be the what you were as of your surgery.

After reading through, the figure seems to be based on the surgery alone, what lifestyle changes (exercise, etc.) you make along with it will impact the figure.

Like working on a car. I may strip out a bunch of weight to go faster, but I still have to do some work under the hood to win.

I'm only 15 months post-op and started at 518 lbs. The calculator predicts that I would lose 199 lbs and wind up at 319 lbs. Thus far, I have actually lost 288 lbs and weigh 230 lbs as of my weigh-in on Friday. There is nothing special about me, I have just followed the recommended exercise and diet program.

Please don't pay attention to the stats surrounding WLS. they only reflect what happened to OTHER people, not what will happen to YOU. Do not limit your expectations and goals because of someone else's lack of commitment or non-compliance. YOU control your level of success.

And, BTW, according to that calculator I should have lost 106 pounds and weigh 189 pounds. Instead, I lost over 160 pounds in about 18 months and currently weigh 135 pounds almost six and a half years after VSG.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
