Hi Kathy,

Happy to say I don't have the breathlessness or the nausea. In fact if anything my breathing has improved considerably! I have mild asthma but since the op I haven't taken the inhaler as I don't feel I need it. Go to the doc as you said, best to get these things checked. If I was to diagnose you i'd say it's stress and possibly panic attacks. You have gone through so so much physically and mentally in the past 2 weeks so it's bound to effect you someway. I haven't heard from Allan other than his post to say he got the clot removed, really hope he's on the mend. Haven't seen Mairead either, must pop in to say hello soon. Take care of yourself.X

thanks ii hope your right i am feeling a little better just need to get through the pain and ill be fine . im gonna have a cup of Soup 2 night looking forward 2 that . since the op all i have had is 2 and a half slimfast shakes and some Water in nearly 4 days .is that right ?????? im hoping to have lost a good stone in the first 2 weeks /??/?xxx:rolleyes:

you will probably find you have lost that stone in the first two weeks, it is usual to do that..it will slow down tho!..then you have to wait til the fills get you going again, it may take a few though, but you wont see that weight again..thats the difference with just dieting alone. we have all prob managed to lose one, two or more stones..then we put it all back on again..including another few more pounds!. but you wont with the band, thats the great bit! good luck! p.s., how much have you got to lose altogether? x

Hi Homecare et al - I just want to make it clear that my liver disease is not from alcohol, or Dr Chris would not have operated at all (he did ask me this while I was about to go under). So please don't worry about that. I have cirrhosis and underwent surgery in 2002, so it is very doubtful that any of you would have such a chronic illness without knowing about it - blood tests routinely test liver function and a problem would show up. In my case, the original diagnosis was seven years ago and my liver blood work has been improving ever since - the point where it was well within the normal range when the lap band surgery was attempted. Dr Chris stopped for fear of internal bleeding that he may not be able to stop and would land me in intensive care in a foreign hospital - costing me thousands a day. I'm still very disappointed in the outcome, but there's little that I could have done. As I said before, there appears to have been a huge miscommuniciation between Dr Chris, myself and Fredrik - but the outcome remains the same. The bottom-line, Homecare and any others, unless you have had serious liver problems in the past (likely resulting in surgery) it is doubtful you have anything to worry about. Good luck to you all!

Hi kathy I know yours was nothing to do with alcohol and I really hope more than anything I havent upset you. It was just before you posted I was going through all the things that could go wrong and that was one of my fears. Hope you are able to breath more easily and are feeling better. J x

Hi Laura & Welcome,

Frederik does the fills in Dublin once a month. Also alot of the people here go to WLS and they come to Dublin (Swords) once a month too. WLS offer a 6mths aftercare for £349. Frederik is in Pembroke street and is €120 per fill. I just got banded last week and as much as I'd like to stay with Frederik, the fact that Flirty (an inspiration to us all) had to get close to €1,000 worth of fills I feel the WLS is much better value plus I believe they have a dietician to set out a diet to suit you. I'm just coming off the liquid stage post op which is so so hard. Had to watch my hubby and all his family eating chinese last night followed by meringues, cream and stawberries!!! I got through it so I'm proud of myself. If you've any other questions just shout someone is bound to have the answer.

Hi ShellyG,

The WLS sounds like the better option alright. Do they have a website or email you can give me please?

Can someone tell me is Fredrick and Dr Chris is the same place? Do you choose which surgeon you want or do they decide?? sorry slightly confused!! I emailed the crowed europe surgery yesterday but have not got a reply.... have I emailed the correct place for Dr Chris?

I can only imagine how hard it is when you can't eat what everyone else is...but at least it will be worth it :(

Hi Laura,

I'm going in to see Frederick on 2nd July in dublin, as like you I've also refused to pay the ridiculous price tag of 11000 euro.

I hope to get banded 5th August as he has these dates free and they suit me best.

Where in Ireland you from?

Hi Toppings,

So you are going for the consultation before then.. I am thinking of just asking to do the night before although I am worried he might say no to me then!!

I am from Wicklow to :( where bouts in Wicklow you from?

Hi Laura,

Just don't tell work that you are going abroad. It's nothing to do with anyone else. I had my op on a Tuesday and I was back to work the following Monday. Mine was timed that it was the week after my holiday - so work thought I was still on holiday. I think the message is that you don't have to tell or explain to anyone about it. It's private. It's hard enough without anyone else judging you.

Hope this helps?

Westie x

Hi Westie,

Thank you, I think I will just ring in sick and say I am having a procedure done and nothing else.. I still havent got a date or anything yet but just like running through everything make sure I am organised ha :(

Hi laura if you google wls goup it is first in the search.

Dr chris is the surgeon and fredrick is his assistant and does all the bookings for him plus helps with the ops and does the fills.

Europe surgery is a company that does bookings for dr chris but your best going through dr chris himself as its cheaper and you can get a package through him which includes taxis and hotels.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
