Feeling discouraged...

Recommended Posts

I had GB surgery Nov. 8. I dropped 26 pounds in the first three weeks. I hit the expected three week stall and didn't lose any weight for about two weeks then I suddenly dropped 6 pounds. I weigh myself once a month because I know it can be addictive. Well I haven't felt any difference in my body so curiosity got the best of me. Since Dec 18th, I weigh the SAME! I haven't lost any weight or inches since then and it's almost been a month. Does this sound right to you guys? I do about 600-700 calories a day, 60 oz of Water, 60-70 Protein, and I try to stay under 15 carbs a day. Please explain what I'm doing wrong . I read a few success stories if ppl that have lost at least 40 pounds two months out, and while I know we shouldn't compare cause everyone loses different, I can't help but feel disappointed in myself. I still haven't been approved for working out since I still have pain and pulling in my left side but I just don't think that's it...I welcome positive criticism so if you feel like I'm doing this wrong I'm all ears with a solution to my problem. TIA

Be patient. I know it's difficult. I'm 11 weeks out and I've had nothing but complications. Systemic yeast infection a gastric ulcer, now I have become gluten intolerant. One bite of a flour product and I pay for it. Everyone's body reacts differently to the major trauma of surgery. Get lots of rest. Your body is still adjusting.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong but you might consider upping your calories and carbs. Some people lose more when they take in more food. Sounds ridiculous but it's true.

What does a day's worth of food look like for you?

I had my bypass on Nov 16th and my intake is kinda all over the place but I usually get 800ish calories and ~50g carbs and my loss is steadily plodding along.

Hi Janice-

I know how you feel but let's not get discouraged and focus too much on the scale. I had my surgery 12/9 and at this point I am not losing anything for the last two weeks, having lost 27 pounds from 12/1 until now. It's easy to panic; I know when I get on the scale and have lost -0-, I wonder if the surgery even worked. BUT, that's an emotional reaction and not a logical one. I think we just have to have PATIENCE (has never been my strong suit!!)... It is not logical that we take in so few calories and have improved our nutrition and exercise and that, ultimately, it will not work... of course it will!

This is an emotional roller coaster at times. But I believe that we have made the right decisions in getting the surgery and that it will work. I expected to get out of the hospital and have the weight just start "rolling off " daily! :D Right now for me, it's not, but it will come off of the both of us because we are doing everything right. I track my food every day including Protein and calories. I am post-menopausal and have lost significant muscle mass, so I am working at trying to build it up again through simple weight lifting, but I can only lift 10 pounds now!

Don't give in to your emotions, and I will remind myself not to give in to mine! We can and will do this, so look forward to it.

FOCUS ON THE GOOD THINGS IN YOUR DAY, AND LOOK FORWARD!!!!

GAIL

I have the same issue. I lost about 28lbs initially but have not lost but 1lb in the last 2 weeks. I'm barely eating 500 calories and am getting at least 60-70 grams of Protein a day plus about 80 oz of fluids. Trying to stay patient but was told the weight would just fall off! Had surgery Dec 2nd.

I have read that an occasional up in your calorie and carb count will help break a stall. I was sleeved on 12-14-16 and I have lost 30 pounds but the past 7-8 days really haven't lost anything. On Monday I eat like 36 carbs and 800 cals Seen the scale move 1 pound now today Ill be eating about 34-38 carbs. Will see what happens.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
