How long before people noticed?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering how long it took before people actually started noticing your weight loss? I've lost 50lbs and I don't feel like I look any different. Also no one has mentioned anything to me about it. I know it's not a huge deal. I'm very happy with how far I've come. I'm just interested in hearing your stories ????

When I had lost about 50% of my excess weight I started getting comments. For me that translated to about 100 lbs from my highest weight.

Well the only thing that sucks is when youre bigger, it takes for a bit more weight to come off for people to really notoce. I had to lose about 60 pounds and post it on social media for people to notice. And sometimes I feel like the only reason some people actually noticed was because I broadcasted it on social media. But not really because people I hadnt saw in months and didnt have on social media were complimenting me asking if I lost any weight. Give it another 10-20 pounds, Im sure others will start pointing it out!! Congratulations on your weightloss ????

Also keep in mind that weight is a sensitive issue and some people don't want to ask and possibly offend.

That has been my experience as well. A number of people at work noticed, but didn't feel comfortable saying anything. Eventually, someone who was a little less socially-sensitive brought it up at a group lunch and other people commented that they had noticed for a while. So, yeah, if you've lost 50 pounds, people have probably noticed, but just don't feel comfortable saying anything.

What is more important than looks though is is how you feel. At 50 pounds lost, I could already tell that my knees and back didn't hurt like they used to; I could bend over and tie my shoes without straining; and I could run up a couple flights of stairs without feeling like I was going to die.

I lost 130lbs and I really didn't notice it until I put a before and current photo next to each other.

I started getting comments when I returned to work after surgery (I had lost 20-25 lbs, but started at 250). The comments were only from people that I told I had WLS. My best friend said I look like shit, and other coworkers (who knew I had surgery but not what it was) were alarmed at my appearance and asked if I was okay.

I think I got it early because my face changed really fast, my clothes fit mostly the same, but I didn't recognize myself in the mirror for a few days.

60 pounds was what it took for me. One of the best comments was a few weeks ago. I got out of my vehicle at a gas station and the manager said "where the F--- is the rest of you?!".

Every time i see my sisters they have a reaction to the way i look. I've lost 43lbs since surgery and over 60 overall. I don't feel different or feel like i look much different, but they can't seem to stop going on about it. It's weird, I'm not good with attention. I don't have a regular job. I babysit for my sister in law. Im kind of glad because if i had a regular job i wouldn't know how to do deal with any attention. Oh but to answer your question it didn't take long before the people closest to me noticed. Maybe a month lol

I'm at 46 lb loss and ppl are noticing. I'm trying to distract ppl from my loss however by wearing my hair and make up different. I don't want the attention then the questions...

Yes I have definitely noticed I can put my shoes and socks on much easier, and I also fit much better in my car ????????

I'm almost four months out and have gone from 250 to 190. My friends and family started noticing and commenting somewhere around the 50 pound mark. I started feeling a difference in breathing and mobility a while ago, but it's only now at -60 pounds that I feel like I actually LOOK any different at all.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
