So, I went to my surgeon to discuss surgery. I have all my appts and scripts for gallbladder, blood, etc....but no psych. They told me I didn't need it.

Anyone else not require?

Ps...I am self pay

I went for my psych evaluation on Thursday. The psychologist said first thing that she meets with everyone in the program 2-5 times. Feeling frustrated because this is not an evaluation this is counseling. I feel like this is helpful for those that want and choose counseling but I am not one of those individuals. Anyone else have to go to psych more than once?

I'm self-pay. I spoke with my surgeon's office therapist for about 45 minutes, as required by the surgeon, but it was not a psych eval.

I lucked out with the psych, but my PCP has requested I do a cardiac test even though EKG was normal. The surgeon is not requiring but figure I might as well get clarence, just in case.

My PCP sent me to a cardiologist although my ekg was normal, as well. She said it was due to my family history of heart disease,

I went to my psych eval last week... I bawled like a baby... She wants to see me 4 more times at least! Guess I'm not ready. She assured me I'd be ready for surgery in may though!

Psych evaluation is required by most insurance companies. Self pay... I would strongly suggest you pay for a session or two to give you some coping mechanisms. It is counseling, not so much as a psych evaluation.

I'd like to add that at my psych visit I felt like she was pushing bypass over the sleeve. A lot of the appointment was me explaining why I wanted the sleeve over bypass and it just seemed awkward to me. She was really nice, but I feel like it was a waste of time.

My insurance required a psych evaluation. I felt kinda stupid because I had already been going to a psychiatrist as well as a weekly therapist. I have major depression and had been seeing them for almost a year.

I thought they'd take their opinions into account but they did not. So I had and passed the eval but the lady that did it wanted to continue to see me. So I've been seeing her monthly for about three months.

I do feel it's a bit of a waste of time but she's also a sleever so she can give me more insight into the process.

I'll still have to see her after my surgery for a while too. Not sure why as my depression is doing much better.

I did a $50 insurance Co pay one ....online questionnaire and then they called me and talked one hour. NP! I am self pay as well. I did spend I think $150, or $250 (have to check that) for a nutritionist for the year. Only met once but I will be meeting again. I can call and text questions or for support. I think having a nutritionist is better than the psych evaluation. Maybe for young adults, or someone not so sure. I do have anxiety but that's normal for any surgery or life change.????

Mine also saw me for 4 weekly visits. Some just really want to get to know you before they sign off saying your mentally stable to have wls. Just think of it as a venting session to an unbiased person. Mine just let me talk about work, family, anything I wanted. After a mok the of seeing her she mailed my clearance letter to me the other day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
