Getting Sleeved with a baby...

Recommended Posts

I'm expecting my surgery to be February/March and at that time my youngest will be 10-11 months old. My husband and other family members will be around to help but I'm also breastfeeding and a bit nervous about that. Has anyone gotten sleeved while having a baby to look after? How did it go? Any advice?

I am hanging out at home with my 9 month old son after getting sleeved 3 days ago. Thankfully, by the time they let me out of the hospital earlier today, I felt well enough to be able to keep up with the little guy as far as just watching him goes. The main thing I could see being an issue is that most surgeons advise not lifting anything heavy for several weeks post-op, but if you have people around who can help with picking your child up while you recover you should be fine from that side of thing.

Breastfeeding seems like it could be tricky, though I'm not trying to breastfeed right now myself. I think you would definitely want to try to build up a supply of stored milk to carry through while you are recovering in the hospital. It is a major surgery and you will likely be tired out and sore - I literally couldn't find the strength to even write a text message to my family to tell them I was okay when I first woke up from surgery, so I can't imagine how I would have found the strength to try to breastfeed that first day. I also would wonder if the severe calorie restriction you would experience post-operatively would make it hard to keep up a good supply.

I dont know if you will be able to keep your supply up on the immediate post opp diet. Im lucky to get in 500 calories most days.

Mine was 15 mos old. I couldn't resist picking him up but luckily got past the weight restrictions without injury. You'll likely feel better than you expect. A lot better. Of course I didn't have to breastfeed. Good luck with everything.

I had a four months old at the time and she was fully breastfeeding. My husband fed her bottles while I was away and once I came home I continued breastfeeding her and all was/is fine. I have a very good supply of milk even with the few calories I consume.

She takes bottles now of pumped breast milk since I'm working full time but I do already struggle with supply and what about the meds? Was there an issue with that?

When I was in the hospital on painkillers I pumped and dumped the milk. But when I got home I continued breastfeeding.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
