Anyone start eating Keto right out of the gate? Like as soon as you were off of soft foods, etc? I'm still a few weeks away from the normal diet phase, but I'm not thrilled about the idea of living off of sugar-free/fat-free products. I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to tolerate the fats associated with keto, so I'm curious what others' experiences have been.

That is exactly what I did. I found that the only thing that I had problems with the fat in sausage. Otherwise I was golden.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Were you eventually able to tolerate sausage? Or do you find that you still have that problem?

In a few days I will be off soft foods and be able to eat more solids. I want to do this.

It is hit and miss at this point. If I do straight sausage then 70% of the time I'm just fine. eggs and sausage mixed I'm good 95%.

First time I heard about the Keto diet was a year after surgery. I liked that it burns fat instead of using carbohydrates for energy. I eat avocados, real butter, and eggs.

Pork sausage is also hard for me. I still eat turkey sausage. ;)

I'm having sausage and eggs for Breakfast this morning. I personally am not a huge fan of turkey sausage unless it is wild turkey. I will agree that I think that the pork fat is what causes the issue with sausage. Pork fat mixes in well with game meats and I had a problem with bear sausage that was made with pork fat.

Glad to hear some people are doing the Keto diet as I wanted to do that for the last 20 pounds. I was a little concerned about that seriously high fat in it but it sounds like it's OK.

I am. Even in purée. Not high fat necessarily but I'm not limiting them either. I started 3 months pre op and find I feel so much better and I'm losing great.

By definition my 14 day pre-op diet was keto.....simply Protein shakes.

The month after was the same....just Protein Shakes.

Once I transitioned to chewable food around the 5th week....it was Keto.< /p>

It's been mainly keto ever since.

Mainly.....I break away and have other stuff when I want to....such as the Thanksgiving spread my sister cooked.....and the Christmas spread that I cooked. I splurge at times.....but I always go back to keto.

Keto is King, lol.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
