98 pounds down and thinking about my goal

Recommended Posts

Sleeved at USC in August 2016 and down a total of 98 pounds in the last 13 months.

I am 12 pounds away from the random goal I set for myself when I started this journey. I have kept 137 in mind as a goa to shoot for; now that I'm 12 pounds away, I'm not so sure.

To be honest, I think I'm not sure because I don't know what "normal" or "OK" is for my body. Everyone says I will know when to stop losing, but I don't think so as I am terrified of maintenance.

How did you select a goal? I think my body dysmorphia is seriously screwing with me.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and see how you're handling your own definition of goal.

I didn't have a weight goal when I started either. My goals were 33-34 pants and a large shirt. I'm currently wearing 32" Wrangler slim fit jeans and 2XL shirts. The shirts are loose and XL's look awesome until I sit down and my stomach gains 9 inches!

My cousin came for Thanksgiving and I realized that I would be quite happy being built like him. He is my height and has the same short leg/long torso that I have. We are both wearing the same size pants. He wears medium to large shirts and he weighs 178 pounds. This puts him at a BMI of 27.9 which is still in the overweight category. You know what? He looks dang good and he is healthy so he is my role model because being healthy was my reason for doing this journey.

I thought 180 would be good because I was 180 in HS. Now that I am almost 190, and I see how clothes are fitting me and the wide world of fashion, I am thinking I want to aim for 165.

I have already achieved my health goals so everything else at this point is just gravy.

I would like to fit in my wedding dress again. So I really have size goals rather than weight goals.

I was happy, healthy, and attractive at that point.

137 is a great goal. It would put you at somewhere around a size 6. That said, I went a few pounds below my goal so I would have wiggle room for the normal fluctuations that occur depending on hydration, Aunt Flo, etc. Try life at 137 and then you can adjust from there. If you like it, up your calories a bit to stop losing. If you don't like it, then keep doing what you are doing now to lose weight.

As an aside, once I hit my goal weight (140) and dropped down for a "bounce" range (135-140), I then focused less on weight and more on body fat percentage. So lowering my body fat became my actual goal versus a scale weight.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
