Your surgeon should have provided you an eating plan. I began on Clear liquids and moved to full liquids on day 4. Puree began week 3, soft foods week 4 a d solids week 5. All doctors are different so please contact yours today. The doctor will also provide pain and nausea scripts when you leave hospital.

Expect to feel tired. Everyone has a different experience. I had a great recovery. Hope you will as well. Went off pain meds on day 3 and was able to tolerate the muscle pain in abdomen. And, I have never used baby spoons or corks. Some do. I make sure my bites are no larger than a nickel.

You do and eat ...EXACTLY...what the doctors tell you to do. You follow that eating and drinking plan EXACTLY like the doctor says and let the doctor / doctor office know of any complications right away. That part is not optional. Even something as small as popcorn to early will damage your surgery incision.

For me, it was an odd sensation of not being hungry but being thirsty and trying my best to get fluids down. A single cup of Jello was hard to take in all at once....you are re-learning how to eat and live. If you eat things to early you will hurt yourself and or be sick. Trust me, I did it once where I ate to much and regretted it about 20 minutes later in the bathroom at work.

I cleared an entire shelf in my fridge and that was MY shelf, of ONLY things I can eat at that time, at my eye level, and all else was out of sight.

I did mine during the holidays too, and its hard as the family eats all around you, but I stuck to it and have good results.

Good luck!

Exactly what the others said - you should have already been given a diet plan and if not, get one ASAP. My progression is almost identical to @suzzzzz.

The first week or so was an absolute job to take sips every 5 minutes to ensure my Fluid intake. I stopped taking the liquid pain meds the day after I came home from the hospital. I was never nauseated.

I was just tired the day of surgery, restless the day after and doing great by the day of discharge (two days post op). I have felt very little pain or discomfort - my gall bladder surgery was more of a recovery.

This early on - you won't need to worry about a food scale and should be able to control the size of your bites once you advance to pureed to not need a baby spoon.

I am only 3 weeks post-op. I have already hit my first stall. I have rarely felt any actual hunger but I miss food. However, I miss being healthy more and realize these coming weeks of transition are temporary.

Good luck and listen to your team and follow their plan!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
