I wasn't given any "have to" weight loss goals pre-op, but I did lose 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during my six-month insurance-required diet program. I wanted to lose as much as I could before the surgery, so I followed a low carb/moderate-to-high protein/high healthy fat lifestyle and started an exercise program. I am so glad I did it. I re-established my relationship with food before the surgery, and I am convinced that the hard work helped with my seamless recovery and continued success post-op.

Good luck!

My program was similar to the one @@blizair09 mentions. We did not have to lose any specific amount, but they did expect us to lose something to demonstrate dedication to the concepts surrounding the surgery. Surgery is a tool, and only one of several needed to make this a success. They also said the more you lose, the quicker recovery would most likely be.

I lost 67 lbs in the four months leading up to my surgery. As far as I am concerned, that was a huge contributing factor to my very rapid and painless recovery. It also showed me, myself, that I was successfully incorporating the other components of the program into my life to make this effort successful.

It is not necessarily the amount of weight you lose though. I think it is the attitude displayed that is more important. I have seen people treat this like a cure all. It is not. It is just one part. Without the others, it will fail.

5%. Not sure if my surgeon required it or my insurance. I'm pretty sure it was my Surgeon because they threaten to cancel if you gain. 12/27

Insurance required a 6 month supervised diet and surgeon required 5%. I gained a little the week before surgery. They said if I didn't lose at least 10 lbs my surgery would get canceled. I lost it in that week and am now 3 months out

Weighed 350 at start, because of high bp and diabetes, my doctor put me on preop diet 2 months before he would consider doing sleeve. I wasn't given amount I had to lose. Because I wanted sleeve soo bad, I followed the plam and lost 49 lbs in 2 mths. (That's when my surgeon told me he was expecting me to lose only 25 lbs in that time.) I had surgery Oct 3, 2016. Starting weight 350, Surgery weight 301, Current weight 252. I also gained 15 lbs immediately post surgery, from immlamation, fluids and infection, I count that as weight lost so I've lost 100+ lbs.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
