How many calories per day for a man who is 2 weeks post op?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to call my surgeon's office on Monday and ask their nutritionist, but I wanted to see what everyone's opinion was on this.

How many maximum calories should I be hitting per day in my 2nd week post op? Also, how many ounces of Protein per day should I be eating besides my three 4 ounce Protein shakes?

Thanks!

You should not be counting calories at all. I was only allowed Protein, no veggies, no carbs, no fruit. But some can. Go with your surgeons directions. Mine 60 to 80 Protein and at least 64 ounces of liquids. 2 weeks out, you will likely get neither but this is what you need to aim for, especially the Water. And at 2 weeks you should start your Vitamins. It's your JOB to get in that Water to avoid landing back in the hospital for an IV.

My Surgeon said that I should get 60 to 80grams of Protein a day and 64Oz liquids a day. When I had my RNY I was still doing Protein drinks for 4 weeks after my surgery. I was also told not to count calories and always do dense Protein first. I'm 3 years out and I still don't get much veggies or fruit. I eat a banana once and awhile.

Hopefully when you call, they will tell you not to focus on calories at all. The goal is to focus on the amount of Protein. Because you cannot eat much at this point, they dont worry so much about calories.

It will come into play down the road and you should use a program like myfitnesspal for tracking so you know what you are consuming.

Best of luck to you!

I don't believe that before you hit maintenance that you need to count calories. The main goal is to hit the higher limits of Protein and Water consumption.By doing that you almost can't blow the diet unless you are eating high carbs or sugar.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to call my surgeon's office tomorrow and talk to the nutritionist. I'm still very confused because they say I should be having 70-80 grams of Protein per day, but the 3 Protein Shakes they want me to have per day add up to 102 grams of Protein. Am I not going to lose as much weight if I'm having too much protein??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
